Izak sat in silence for a while, watching as the others worked their stations. They all seemed focused on the mission and the goal of rescuing whoever or whatever was stranded on these massive sections of space debris.

Truth be told, he’d rather be at a console himself… he felt better when he could keep his hands busy and feel like he was actually doing something. Lt Waryn had come to learn during limited time as a department head that he could not do everything himself… no matter how many hours he worked. No matter how hard he tried.

You needed good people to work alongside you, and Crewmen… and Cadets… only got better through experience.

Instead of interrupting anyone’s tasks, the Brekkian eyed the space debris and tried to ascertain what happened to the now destroyed ship.

Looking at the screen, Vaarek did not expect the results of the scan of the furthest chunk. It seemed to have an outer hull with possibly remains of some kind of sublight engine module partly still hanging on it. But it could not be…

“Sir,” Vaarek called to get Waryn’s attention. “Can you help me interpret this scan? Not only does the chunk seem hollow, but also technological in its construction. It is does not an average space rock.”

The hull was made of simpler space faring alloys, mostly titanium, and nickel steel and such. Showing an alien race that had technology on par with Earth Starfleet in the mid 2150s or so around the time of the Earth-Romulan war. Though the ship was not from that era or that old. Maybe 5-10 years tops in age and then destroyed by some kind of internal and external explosions about 2 or so weeks ago. As the Rodent game within range of the furthest hull chunk the bit of sublight engine hanging loosely from the ship’s remains was of alien design. Primitive but not much more different in operating then then a fusion or impulse engine.

Izak watched as the shuttle approached the chunk of space debris.

He glanced toward the XO, who was piloting the shuttle in with Ensign Sanks as his co-pilot. “Commander… once we land on the hulk, do you want the whole team to debark and commence the scans? Or should should our Chief Science Officer take the lead while you and Roger man the shuttle?”

All five people conducting a seach would make it go faster, but having somebody on the shuttle that could transport them back if things got dicey would be a significant advantage as well.

His own musings were less urgent… but no less impact. The construction looks odd… are we truly encountering an entirely new species? While the idea of first contact was exciting… he wasnt going to distract from the rescue mission with his fledgling theories.

Riley brought the shuttle down to a hover. He turned in his seat and said “ I’m gonna keep the show airborne and keep a transporter lock on all of you in case if things get real bad I will teleport you directly back to the shuttle. As for your scanners, I’m going to be increasing the range of feeding the shuttle sensors to yours as I maintain overwatch”

OOC: Reminder again transporters aint gonna work, hence why you gotta use EVA suits, if you want to hover the shuttle instead of landing it on the hull thats fine but it might mean critical time lost in your search or in leaving etc, up to you guys though…

OOC: excuse me but roach can you please give me a brief on what exactly is going on? I have been fully here because of work stuff. All I know is that I’m on a shuttle right now. I have no idea what is going on.

OOC: the site doesn’t want to let me load old posts, so this is going from memory.

The Scallax leadership asked us to look into the goings on in neighboring systems. I WANT to say they had potential threats in the area, but I can’t recall.

I believe the day after the barbecue/reception, we left for a neighboring system to investigate these goings on.

We discovered the remains of a ship and got faint readings of life signs. The sensors couldn’t be certain and transporters weren’t viable. The CO ordered 2 shuttle prepared to go investigate… with whatever double shielding Mod you used on a previous mission.

Within the debris, there are 5 large chunks that could reasonably still have life support and/or support those life signs.

We are racing against the clock to get to those life signs and hopefully rescue what we (or at least I) assume are survivors.

The Counselor’s shuttle arrived at the 2nd chunk, and we just arrived (or are arriving) on the 5th.

The GM reiterated that we are looking for life signs (not data) and also reminding us that transporters aren’t functional (probably due to my recent posts) so we are ready to move in and start the away mission.

We all decked out in EVA gear when we arrived at the shuttle.

Based on your comment about staying on the shuttle, I recommended the CSO take the lead on the away mission, which is what she reacted to below.

Izak masked his surprise. He didn’t know Nala well, but she’d been a department head longer than Lt Waryn had. I guess she’s still going through some of the same growing pains I am.

“You’re the Chief Science Officer… this is right up your alley.” He said, trying to boost her confidence. “Besides, you’ll have Engineering, Security, and Medical personnel with you.” He glanced at Roger and Vaarek as he mentioned Security and Medical, then returned his gaze to Science Lieutenant. “You’ve got this… and we’ve got your back.”

Riley landed the shuttle and got his EVA gear on “ok everyone there is going to be some radiation out there if anyone is not feeling well you need to tell me then you will return to the shuttle. The modified shields will protect you from the radiation. On top of that, this is uncharted rock We are going to be on something may happen if it does follow your training. Do you all understand the rules?”

Izak nodded to the XO in confirmation. He put on his helmet and sealed the EVA suit, watching as it ran its automatic diagnostics. He kept an eye on the Cadet, but didn’t intervene unless the Vulcan seemed to have an issue.

He could see part of this twisted piece of space debris through the shuttles cockpit window. He wasn’t familiar with the design… but he was fairly certain it was a piece of outer ship hull with part of a sublight engine partially attached to it. I wouldn’t mind getting a look at that, time permitted. The Chief Engineer shook his head and did his best to turn off the technical part of this brain. The focus is on rescuing any survivors… everything else comes second.

LT Waryn pulled out his tricorder and exited the shuttle as soon as everyone was aready.

When O’Nell was done with his EVA and ran the diagnostics, he asked “ so what will the gravity be like out there? It’s gonna fluctuate at any point in time and what type of environment are we gonna be walking into” he said looking at the science, Officer

Vaarek prepared the medical toolkit with him. He looked at the first officer.

“Where do you need me, commander? In the shuttle, ready for intake, or outside it, with the team?”

Ensign Sanks helped the XO land the shuttle, and then put on his EVA suit and grabbed his security kit. He set his phaser to stun, and was ready to go when the rest of the team was ready to step off the ship, unless the XO wanted him to stay on the ship to pilot.

OOC: Since we are shifting GMs again and I believe this sim is dead… do the four of us just want to continue it as a side sim?

With our XO swapping out as well, it would put Nala in charge and that would be a neat perspective since she seemed out of her comfort zone when we broached that idea earlier.
