Not long before he went to sickbay for his physical, Jace had the 1 on 1 basketball against 18 year old Thomas Ratcliff, and he somehow managed to get through that, which was far more physical than he would have thought possible, “you’re a featherweight,” Thomas taunted on more than one occasion, usually when he bore down on Jace, before jumping for the basket. Jace’s best response was to be the first to 21. Both Trill and Human were breathing heavily by the end of it, but they agreed to do it again sometime.

But now, washed, and in a fresh uniform, Jace turned up at sickbay, ready for his boarding physical.

Jace continued to wait to be seen to by a medical officer. He’s certain they would have seen the ‘highlights’ of his medical file.

Medical Officer’s Notes - Dr. T’Vana

• Chronic Pain Management: Jace still suffers from phantom nerve spikes in his upper spine during high-G maneuvers or long shifts. He refuses pain medications because he claims they “dull his reaction time”. Watch for signs of self-medicating or hiding pain symptoms to stay on the duty roster


• Adrenal Burnout: Jace runs high on adrenaline. His resting heart rate is elevated. He requires a higher caloric intake than his weight suggests because he burns energy nervously.


• The spine: His spinal fusion is robust, but he is NOTcleared for heavy lifting or grappling combat. He often ignores this restriction, particularly in low-stress environments. Refer to Counselor

Spenn approached the wait area once more. “Is there an ensign by the name of J. Vorel present?” He asked, looking at the few people sit patiently.

“Yes, sir, Doctor Lieutenant Vulcan, sir” Jace said, raising his hand, “Ensign Jace Vorel here for my boarding physical, Sir. I can return at a later time if it would be better, Sir.”

Spenn stared at the Trill. Did the ensign use his species’ name in the place of a surname? How illogical.

Jace stared back at the Vulcan … he’d had staring contests with his father previously.

After a few moments of silence, “That was highly illogical. From now on, it would do you well to address me as Doctor Spenn.” He stated in typical Vulcan fashion, “Shall we begin the physical?”

“Very well,” Spenn said, looking down at his PADD. “Have you suffered, or prone to, any ailments that would impede your service to the USS Ark Angel?”
