MAIN SIM - Attack on the USS Ark Angel

Things were tense in engineering, but part of that came from not knowing exactly what was going on. Engineers were, by nature of the job, a step removed from activity on the bridge.

The ship was still at Yellow alert, which meant shields were up and the engineering systems needed to be ready to support anything. ENS Waryn was just one of many engineers working to keep things running like clockwork. So far things have been quiet, with the main calls requesting support for sensors from Science or Helm.

Unsurprisingly, even with Chief O’Nell working with the XO and most of the other Department Heads on the Away Mission, things were running smoothly. There was a duty roster and a chain of command for a reason, and the engineering team adjusted automatically to accommodate his absence.

OOC: I’m hoping LTjg Katie Hobbes jumps in. She’s the ranking Engineering Officer (currently on the ship) so I intend to follow her lead once things get moving.

OOC: Ask and you will receive. I’m still getting use to this format for please excuse me if I accidentally step on someone’s toes.

The Klaxxon had started its deep throated call to yellow alert just as Katie reached the entrance to Engineering. It was not quite the homecoming she had hoped for after being away so long. Nor did it match her expectations for meeting her boss. Even so, there was something invigorating about Engineering during an alert status regardless of the cause.

As she stepped into the main engineering compartment, it was clear that the team was well disciplined. As she entered, a tall, blonde male Engineer was the first to notice her and, after what appeared to be brief instructions to an enlisted crewman, approached her. He was not what she had imagined Lt. O’Nell would like but she prepared to hand her PADD with her assignment orders to him anyway. It was not clear that he was not O’Nell until he was close enough for her to spot the single pip on his collar. An Ensign

“Ensign, ” Katie said pausing a moment to recall the engineer’s name. “Waryn I assume. And I assume this means Lt O’Nell is unavailable at least at the moment.”

She took a deep breath. Right into the frying pan. How much better could this get.

“All right, Waryn. Give me a status report and tell me what is happening. But first, let’s get as many of these people in radiation suits as we can. There is no telling when a yellow alert will turn to red and we will have damage control to worry about.

Izak spotted the LTJG who would be heading up the shift and approached her. Izak had been onboard for a relatively short time, and he was still learning who all the key players were in the department. Actually… didn’t I hear somebody say that Lieutenant Hobbes served on the Ark Angel a while back? And this is a… retour?

“Yes Ma’am, I’m ENS Izak Waryn, pleasure to meet you. I’ve been working nights with Gamma until today, so I’m still getting familiar with the personnel on this shift.” He turned to Crewman Brasc, a seasoned Andorian engineer, and relayed the orders to have a team gear up for radiation exposure.

Izak might have tried socializing a little to break the ice, but decided against it. Hobbes had the tone and expression that Engineering Duty Officers have when coming on shift, so ENS Waryn’s new instincts kicked in. “General Yellow alert. No sign of any attackers, but we’re at Station 342 in response to a distress call, so the Bridge wants to be ready for anything.”

It’s weird that we got a distress call, but when we showed up, the station looked fine except for the odd interference that seemed to block comms. Izak thought. Well, and sensors I suppose. I hear that as soon as the shuttle with the XO, LT O’Nell, and a bunch of the other department heads crossed that interference, we lost them on comms and sensors. ENS Waryn turned his attention back to LTJG Hobbes to finish his report.

“We’ve been supporting Science and Helm with sensors as they analyze everything out there for a clue as to what’s going on. All systems are currently green, and the team is focused on keeping them that way. Let us know what you need, Ma’am, and we’ll get it done.” From his time at the Academy and his short time in the Fleet, Izak knew that all supervisors tended to do things a little differently. He was trying to be reserved until he got a feel for how the LT wanted to run things.

Becket had been thinking to himself. =/\= “All Current Department Heads and or anyone next in line of the said department report to the Conference Room.” =/\= As he was heading to the Conference Room not sure what to really expect since of course this was his first mission as Captain of the ship and need a status report from all departments.

Katie had just started to say something to Ensign Waryn when the Captain’s call came through. She sighed and turned to Izak.

“I’m not sure if that includes me or not,” she said. “I better get there. The worst that can happen is that I will be asked to leave. In the meantime… keep up the good work. And get a few of them into radiation suits.”
