Yoshida had left sickbay after informing Spenn and Batario that they were assigned to the away team and headed to the shuttle bay. He began to prep the shuttle as he waited for the others to arrive. In his head, he began running scenarios. If there was a dampening field, the shuttle would lose power as soon as it crossed it and they wouldn’t be able to beam out. Also, if there was a dampening field, is it also creating an illusion around the Starbase? Is that why it didn’t look damaged? Yoshida tried to focus on how he could get them out of the dampening field. Perhaps they could rig the thrusters to discharge and push them back out of the field’s range. It’s a possibility. This is one of the reasons he wanted O’Nell on the away mission. If they find themselves stranded out there, him and Lt. Grey would be there best bet to make it back to the Ark Angel.Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerLTJG Ezeami arrived in the shuttle bay a few moments later. He had a phaser rifle slung across his back and a Type 2 phaser holstered at his side. Stepping inside the shuttle he greeted the XO and gestured to another phaser rifle he carried in his hands.
“I brought this in case you want something a little bigger than the standard.”
LTJG Ezeami - COS
“Thank you, Lieutenant,” Yoshida said taking the rifle. Then he had a thought that brought a smile to his face, “Imagine if there was a mistake, and we showed up armed to the teeth? An amusing picture, eh?”
“Nothing like a first impression, or something like that,” he grinned back.
Riley entered the shuttle a few minutes later and started the preflight checks and started to make a few modifications to the shuttles shields. So if there was a dampening field they had a way to get out. He reached into his tool box and pulled out a par of glasses he has been working on. The glasses he had where something of his own design keeping the users hands as free as possible.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
“Lt. O’Nell,” Yoshida said heading over to him, “I trust you have some modifications to asssist against the possibility of a dampening field?”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley turned in his set “ Ah Lad I have a few tricks I can throw in but the best plan I have is to surround the shuttle power core with a personal shield generator. This way where their power shielded. The damping field will have to seek through our modulating shields through our hull that will be polarized and to get through the power core personal shield. It is a multi layer plan”
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
Yoshida gave an understanding nod and said, “Make it so, Lieutenant. Ezeami, help me check over the shuttle while we wait for the others.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive Officer“Aye, sir,” Ollie nodded at the XO.
He began working through the pre-flight safety checklist, pushing down the excitement that was starting to build. It had been awhile since he had been on an away mission with all of the transfer processes and this one could go either way.
LTJG Ezeami - COS
James jogged into the shuttlebay with his Tricorder attached to his hip and a small case slung around his shoulder, just extra stabilisation gear for sensor locks.

As Riley was in the pilot seat still going working on the pre flight systems making sure everything was working properly. He always did enjoy flying the shuttle over a large vessel.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
As they all arrived, Yoshida ushered them into the shuttle and took the copilot seat next to O’Nell. Over the comms, they heard Captain Becket say =/\= _ bridge to shuttle bay prepare to launch the shuttle.=/\=
Yoshida tapped at the consile and replied, =/\=_Shuttle to Bridge. Ready for launch.=/\= “Ready or not, here we come.” Yoshida said as the shuttle bay doors opened out into the void of space between them and the Starbase.Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive Officer=/\=Very well number one your chest to launch=/\=. Captain Becket replied.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelSpenn chose this moment to speak up. “Lieutenant Commander Yoshida, I find it logical to know what is the most probable outcome on Starbase 342 so that Ensign Batario and I be adequately prepared.” He requested in his typical passionless Vulcan tone.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Spenn
Chief Medical OfficerYoshida gave a look to the Vulcan and then back out the viewing window. “Unfortunately,” he said, “I cannot give you a satisfactory answer. Since we had received the distress call of an attack, we had believed we’d be entering an active combat situation. But, upon arrival, the Starbase appears to be functioning normally. Either the appearance of order we see is a trap of some kind, or the initial transmission itself could have been a fabrication. To what end, I am unsure, but the only way for us to know is by going to the Starbase ourselves and obtaining answers.”
Yoshida looked away from the viewport to the assembled team. “You all were selected for this mission because the captain and I wanted our most skilled people to be the ones to assess the situation on the Starbase. Stay alert, stay vigilant.”
=/\=Shuttle to bridge.=/\= Yoshida said into the comms, =/\=We are vacating the shuttle bay now.=/\= He turned to O’Nell and said, “Engage, Lieutenant.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley activated the engines and exited the shuttle bay he then let the shuttle complete a scan of the space around the station.
“Well I am not picking up anything on my scans”
he said he slowly flew the shuttle towards the station with caution.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
“Keep the scans going,” Yoshida said, “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley looked over his shoulder and said “you mind if I activated the shielded power core now. Cuz if something happens I wanna get moving and I want everyone to strap him back there”
with his hands on the council, he will the shuttle forward
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
Ollie sat back into his seat and buckled the safety harnesses. He could feel the range of emotions from the rest of the crew as he looked around at them. After a quick, calming breath he set his face to one of cool confidence and waited.
LT Ezeami - COS
“Yes,” Yoshida said to O’Nell, “Activate the shield and then take us in.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley took the shuttle in closer to the station with the shield activated, hull polarized, and the shielded power core working together
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
As the shuttle closed the final distance to Starbase 342, Riley’s layered defensive measures synchronized seamlessly. The shield matrix flared briefly as it adjusted to the station’s residual energy distortions, while the polarized hull compensated for erratic subspace eddies drifting from the damaged docking ring. Power readings from the shielded core remained stable, confirming that the shuttle could withstand a limited external impact or energy surge if necessary.
Long-range sensors began to return clearer telemetry as the interference thinned. Portions of the station’s outer superstructure showed visible scarring—burn marks, micro-fractures, and incomplete repair patches—suggesting recent activity or an unresolved incident. Automated traffic control signals were present but degraded, repeating a low-priority approach beacon rather than issuing standard docking instructions.
At this range, the shuttle’s shields detected intermittent energy fluctuations emanating from the starbase’s lower habitat ring. The readings were not immediately hostile, but they were inconsistent with normal station operations, hinting at either emergency power rerouting or an unknown system still cycling through recovery protocols.
The shuttle remained unchallenged as it moved into a holding position just outside standard docking range. Riley’s precautions had clearly prevented any sudden system feedback or navigational hazard, buying the away team valuable time to assess their next move.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark Angel“I need someone to start transmitting all data readings to the Ark Angel they have the ability to do a analysis on the data and learn more” he said as he pilot in the shuttle through the debris around the station.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
Yoshida nodded and turned to the Ensign Science officer. “T’Varan, start the transmission to the Ark Angel. Lt. Ezeami, try hailing the Starbase while O’Nell tries to dock the shuttle so we can have a look around.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerSoral acknowledged the Executive Officer with a brief nod, then proceeded to carry out the instruction without hesitation. He initiated a secure transmission to the USS Ark Angel, compiling and forwarding all available data. The dataset was limited, as the vessel had only recently arrived at the starbase, but accuracy and verification were preferable to speculation or omission.
Incomplete information, Soral reflected, was acceptable provided it was clearly identified as such.
The transmission concluded without issue, and he remained at his station, awaiting further instructions.

USS Ark Angel“Opening hailing frequencies,” Ezeami stated as he tapped the necessary controls on his console and waited for any response.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
As the Chief of security starts to open hailing frequencies within the field that they’ve enter that has surrounded the Starbase, has some how effect the shuttles communication with the Ark Angel.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelRiley noticed the problem “ OK save a copy of all the data from inside the field uploaded into a micro probe. The field will affect the probe, but it can escape the field on inertia alone.” He said as he prepared the probe. “ anyway we need to get this data to the Ark Angel” he added
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
While the away team came up with a way to gather the information from the starbase, they had then soon took the shuttle to Starbase 342 and land in the shuttlebay.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelAs they landed, after launching their probe to the Ark Angel, Yoshida strapped on the Phaser Rifle and turned to T’Varan, “Ensign, can you do a scan of the surrounding area and get us an idea of what we’re heading into? Life signs, environmental systems, possible hostiles, anything you can give me. Ezeami, any communication from the Starbase?
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerOllie double checked the console, “Negative, sir, no response.”
He wondered briefly at what might be waiting for them as he waited to hear the results of the scan. They certainly would not have the advantage of surprise here.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
“Yes Sir” Soran said and started conducting his scan

USS Ark AngelAs they still investigate everything, they weren’t sure what to expect looking around.

Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelSpenn scanned for life signs. Picking up on a faint signal and following it, he came across a body that was sprawled across the floor. “I have found a member of this Starbase,” Spenn announced to the others, “Unfortunately, they do not appear to be conscious.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Spenn
Chief Medical OfficerOutside the shuttle, Yoshida went over to Spenn to look at the unconscious form. “Is there anything you can give to revive him?” Yoshida asked. He held his phaser rifle ready in his hands as he started to scan the room, looking for any potential hostilities.
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerEzeami stepped out of the shuttle and moved to take up position by the doctor and XO. He began slowly and methodically scanning the perimeter with his eyes, keeping his rifle at the ready. Just as naturally as he used his eyes and ears he reached out with his half Betazoid senses to detect any beings and what feelings and motives they might hold.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
As Ezeami takes position beside the doctor and the XO, the shuttle’s cooling hull ticks softly behind the away team, the sound quickly swallowed by the surrounding stillness. The landing site offers limited cover—jagged rock outcroppings to the north, sparse metallic debris half-buried in the dust to the east, and a wide open approach stretching out toward the facility ahead.
His visual scan reveals no immediate movement. Power signatures from the nearby structure fluctuate faintly, suggesting systems on standby rather than fully active. The area appears intentionally quiet, almost staged.
When Ezeami extends his Betazoid senses, he does not encounter clear, defined thoughts. Instead, he brushes against a low-level emotional haze—unease, tightly controlled and disciplined, held at a distance. It is not wild fear or aggression, but the restrained tension of beings who know they are being watched and are deliberately masking their presence. The impressions feel organized rather than instinctive, implying training and coordination.
There is no immediate hostile intent pressing toward the team, but the emotional residue suggests multiple lifeforms beyond the range of direct sight, positioned to observe rather than engage. Whatever is out there is aware of the away team’s arrival and is choosing patience over confrontation—for now.
The moment hangs, the silence feeling less like safety and more like the calm before a deliberate decision is made.

Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelOOC: Clarifying question: Is Starbase 342 a space station or a ground based facility?
IC: Ezeami moved a little closer to the XO so he could speak softly.
“Sir, I’m sensing multiple beings here, they are aware of us. I’m picking up tension but no overt hostility. I can’t tell if they are from the starbase or not. I’ll stay open to them and keep you apprised.”
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
OOC: it’s a starbase.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelRiley never liked it when thing we’re using shadows to hide. He activated his tricorder to set up a basic sound pulse. (sonar) “ hopefully this will let us see what is out there” he said
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
Yoshida raised an eyebrow at Ezeami. It having a Betazoid certainly was an advantage. “Please do, Lieutenant.” He then moved over to O’Nell to look at the tricorder sound pulse he was setting up, “Smart thinking. Once you get a reading from that, let’s see what we can do about getting the lights back on.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerO’Nell laughed a little bit “I just wish I had packed some flares but if security pack are the same Should security packs have one or two in them” he said as he setup the sonar pulse.
Lt. Riley O’Nell (CE)
“To answer your query, Commander Yoshida,” Spenn intoned, responding to the commander’s question if he could revive the Trill male, “I will be able to apply a osteogenic stimulator and dermal regenerator to revive him.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Spenn
Chief Medical OfficerYoshida nodded, “Please do, Doctor,” and then said to Ezeami, “Lieutenant, see if you can find some flares in one of the packs in the shuttle. Don’t light them yet. I don’t want us more exposed than we already are.”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive Officer“Aye, sir,” Ollie responded.
He headed quickly back into the shuttle and found several flares in the equipment that had been packed. He strapped his phaser rifle across his back again so he could carry the flare supplies out. Being momentarily unarmed was not his favorite, but he was somewhat comforted by the fact that whoever was here wasn’t giving off hostile vibes at the moment. Ollie returned quickly to the other officers and set out several flares for them before bringing his rifle back to bear.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
OOC: I checked in with Captain Chris, and he said that Jace could just appear with the away team on the station. Let’s just assume he was trying to ‘improve’ the shuttle’s engines and fell asleep in their console, and waited until the others had left before he emerged. - Russell
IC: Jace watched as Doctor Spenn operated on the Trill male, and also when Ollie disappeared back to the shuttle to collect the flares. He tried to remember if he shut the console on the engines before he left the shuttle … but couldn’t.
“Sir and Doctor,” he said, speaking to both Commander Yoshida and Dr Spenn, “do we know if this Trill is joined to a symbiont or not? I do recall mother saying that Symbionts are precious are to check on their needs, and not to just assume whether they are either joined or unjoined. And a request from me,” He paused, thinking on what Counsellor Cross told him, “the Counsellor told me to be myself. I am not seeking to gain several lifetimes of memories and change my surname. I want to be myself and not like my sister, thanks.”
Ensign Jace Vorel, Helm/Ops, Ark Angel
Yoshida gave a thankful nod to Ezeami and then turned to the Ensign who had just joined, “No, Ensign. We do not know anything, which is why Dr. Spenn is trying to resuscitate them, to give us some answers.” Yoshida took a moment to recall what he had read of Vorel from his personnel file. He hadn’t had a chance to have a meeting with him and wasn’t sure if he had time to meet with is department head or the counselor. Yoshida remembered reading that the boy had a reckless streak and a chip on his shoulder, at least, that was hs interpretation of Vorel’s file. He’d need to keep an eye on him while they were here. “Keep your focus on the here and now, Ensign,” Yoshida said, “Don’t let anything personal interfere with this mission. These people need our help and we cannot fail them. Lt. O’Nell, what have you picked up on the Sonar?”
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerOllie could understand some of the feelings from Ensign Vorel, being a half Trill himself and unjoined.
“Hey, Ensign Vorel,” he called over to the young man, “I’m the only security officer down here for now and I could sure use an extra pair of eyes, especially one with pilot reflexes. Want to come over here and help me keep watch?”
He gave a quick glance to the XO with a subtle eyebrow raise to ask silently for permission to keep the ensign engaged.
Lieutenant Ezeami - COS
Ensign Vorel reacted a heartbeat slower than a fully Human officer might have, but Ollie’s words clearly landed. Beneath the surface, the young Trill’s emotions shifted—uncertainty easing into something steadier. There was a familiar undercurrent of self-doubt there, the quiet weight of being unjoined in a culture that so often celebrated those who were not. Ollie’s invitation cut through that neatly, replacing isolation with purpose.
Vorel straightened, reflexively adjusting his stance as if stepping into a cockpit rather than a corridor. His attention sharpened, eyes already beginning to track movement and sightlines around the area. The pilot instincts Ollie referenced were very much present, translating naturally into situational awareness.
The XO caught the subtle glance and answered it with a brief, almost imperceptible nod—approval given without interrupting the flow of the moment. Keeping the ensign engaged was clearly preferable to letting his thoughts spiral.
Vorel moved to Ollie’s side, posture alert but controlled, his presence adding a second layer of vigilance to the watch. Whatever unease he’d been carrying dulled, replaced by the simple clarity of duty shared. For now, at least, he wasn’t just an unjoined Trill or a junior officer waiting to be noticed—he was part of the line, eyes forward, contributing.
Captain Alex Becket
Commanding Officer/Temp GM
U.S.S. Ark AngelSoral’s presence appeared largely unremarked upon by the rest of the away team. This was acceptable. The lack of engagement permitted uninterrupted focus on his environmental scans, a task he approached with practiced efficiency. As data flowed across his tricorder, a measured curiosity accompanied his analysis—not emotional interest, but the quiet satisfaction derived from observing variables that deviated, however slightly, from established scientific models.
Ensign Soral T’Varan
Science Junior Officer
USS Ark AngelYoshida gave a nod to Ezeami, thinking to himself, Good idea, Lieutenant. put some of the boy’s energy to good use. “Well, we can’t wait around here all day.” the commander said, “Doctor, you and Batario help get the Trill back to the shuttle and try to resuscitate him. The rest of you take cover while Ensign Vorel and Lt. Ezeami assist me and lighting these flares around the shuttle, in the hopes on shedding some light on things. Kaishi!“
Lt. Commander Yoshida
Executive OfficerRiley was working on his tri corder and smiled “ I can make A-rad device. directional sound waves to incapacitate an individual and a non-lethal way.” he said.
Riley can use the phaser like a boss, but he never really felt comfortable using a weapon if the power level was too high, he can easily kill someone. But during war, it was either kill or be killed.
Lt. Riley O’Nell
Ollie grabbed a couple flares for himself and handed a few off to Vorel and Yoshida. It made him a little uneasy having both hands engaged in the work, but luckily with three of them it shouldn’t take long, and having a well lit perimeter around the shuttle would be welcome. At the same time, a small part of him acknowledged that a well lit perimeter would also make the away team more visible to whatever was out there. He kept his Betazoid senses open to them, watching for any signs that those feelings of unease were turning to hostility.
