With no immediate operational duties requiring his attention, Alex took the opportunity to visit Sickbay. The assignment of a new Chief Medical Officer to the ship was a notable change in the senior staff, and he felt it appropriate to make a personal introduction. It was also an ideal chance to assess how she was adapting to her new environment and the crew she would now be serving alongside.

The name “Devin” lingered in his thoughts as he made his way through the corridors. There was an undeniable familiarity to it—one that he couldn’t immediately place. Alex had long since learned that such instincts were rarely without cause, and his curiosity was piqued.

Before visiting, he had briefly accessed her Starfleet service record. The information confirmed what his memory had been quietly suggesting: she had served aboard the USS Chimera. That vessel, while not one he had personally been assigned to, was one he had crossed paths with during joint operations in past years. The connection explained why her name resonated so strongly in his mind.

As he stepped into the turbolift, Alex considered what he knew of the Chimera’s reputation. The ship had a history of undertaking high-risk exploratory missions along the edges of charted space, often requiring quick thinking and medical expertise under extreme conditions. If Lieutenant Commander Devin had served there for any length of time, it meant she was no stranger to the challenges that deep-space assignments presented. That alone spoke volumes about her capabilities.

The turbolift doors parted, and he continued toward Sickbay, passing several crew members along the way. He returned their greetings with a nod, but his thoughts remained focused on the upcoming meeting. It was one thing to read about an officer’s record; it was another entirely to see how they conducted themselves in person. The atmosphere a department head cultivated could set the tone for the entire crew’s morale, especially in a place as vital as Sickbay.

Arriving at Sickbay, Alex’s thoughts shifted from curiosity to professionalism. This was not merely a courtesy call—it was an opportunity to establish rapport and ensure that one of the ship’s most critical departments was in capable, confident hands. With that in mind, he stepped through the doors, ready to formally welcome the Chief Medical Officer aboard.

As the doors parted, he was greeted by a gentle lilting voice drifting from the open doorway of the inner office. “Be with ye in a jiffy!”

Barely a minute later the petite brunette walked out of the office and smiled as she looked up to meet his gaze. “How can I be o’ help to ye today?”

Devin smiled softly, “Ah well doing well so far, would ye like to talk in my office or are ye just popping by on other errands?” She replied gently as she looked up at him.

“I wouldn’t mind coming on in.” He replied back. ” I’m just kind of lucky that I don’t have anything else until the mission.” He added.

Devin nodded softly, “Well come in and make yerself comfortable Lieutenant Commander?” She said as she lead the way to her office.

The desk had a small stack of padds, the small three layered bookshelf behind her had some books and two small bonsai trees one was a pale pink Sakura blossom while the other was a brilliant red Japanese maple. The lower shelves had nothing in place yet. “Would you like something from the replicator or no?” She asked as she nodded towards the comfortable chairs infront of her desk.

Devin nodded and walked over to the replicator, “What would be ye’r fancy?” She asked before telling the replicator what she wanted along with his request.

He smiled at her. “Just earl grey to hot.” He smiled as he saw her at the replication.

Devin nodded softly and told the replicator the requested Earl Grey tea hot and her peppermint hot chocolate.

After the replicator finished their drinks she brought them over and offered him his before she sat down with her own.

“Have ye been part o’ the crew very long or are ye newly transferred like meself?” She asked softly while looking up at him.

“I’ve been on board for the past year. I have been the Chief Engineering Officer for half that time and I’m newly promoted to Executive Officer.” He said with a smile. “However, I’ve also been looking forward to hopefully be in a relationship with someone as well. But at the same time, my duties as Executive Officer, I must keep myself professional with any and all officers under myself and the captain. What brought you here if I may ask doctor?” He added a question.

“I wanted to be part of a ship over being station side because I enjoy the wider range we’re allowed to explore and ship duty is never dull.” Devin said softly. She wasn’t quite sure how to respond to his comment about finding a companion for a relationship. It implied he was currently not dating. “I hope you find someone that can be understanding of your position and duties.” she finally offered softly in understanding.

“Thanks for that. Uh well that is good for why you’re wanting to be stationed here. Yeah being here on the Ark Angel is the best vessel I’ve been on. Oh and by the way thanks for the tea.” He said to her.

Devin laughed softly, “May she always meet every challenge!” She said softly. It was nice how he seemed unafraid to boast the efficiency of the ship and crew to a new member like herself. In time she hoped to have as much confidence as well.

“After shift dinner or chat without rank in the way?” Devin asked softly as she regarded him with a smile. She was honestly flattered with the question but she wanted to be sure of what he was expecting.

“I think that would be fine. Would ye like to meet in the lounge after shift?” She replied lightly as she looked up at him. She had no problem at all with learning more about someone she was going to serving with. It could lead to friendship or more and it was never a loss in her opinion.
