Tak held onto Paku’s hand as they all but dragged their son along the corridor. Paku wasn’t exactly struggling, but he wasn’t cooperating either. “I feel fine, Theta,” he complained.“Paku, every person aboard this ship requires a regular check-up in sickbay, and you are no exception to that. You are a growing boy, and we need to make sure you are growing properly.”
“I feel fine,” he repeated.
“You are an oceanic creature who has spent his childhood on starships instead of on the ocean.”
“And who’s fault is that?”
“You really want to pull that card??” Tak stopped, staring at Paku, who stared back defiantly. “If the fault belongs to anyone or anything, it is the fault of the storm that killed your pod.”
Paku looked away, still glowering. “You coulda raised me in the sea, if you cared that much about me being oceanic.”
“Paku, I could not have. A child requires an entire Pod. I am one person. I could not have kept you safe out there on the ocean. It is impossible.”
Paku continued to sulk. “I don’t wanna go to sickbay. It smells weird and they poke you and prod you.”
“It is nearly time for your First Hunt. If you are to do that, you require a clean bill of health, and tests to ensure you have the endurance required. Starfleet will not approve of our Leave otherwise.” It was a bit of a white lie. The check-up was required for the Leave approval, but he didn’t need to pass any pre-set requirements.
“How could they?!” Paku looked aghast, and changed his mind, immediately moving towards Sickbay. “We gotta go, I need to have my first hunt! Kota will never let me live it down if I don’t!!”
Before long, they arrived in Sickbay and Paku bounced on his feet, waiting impatiently.

Science Officer USS Ark AngelDevin walked out of her office and smiled softly at the pair. “Ah good afternoon, what can I be helping ye with today?” She was in-between appointments and was more than happy to be of assistance.

USS Ark Angel“Hello, Doctor,” Tak turned to Devin with a smile. “I am Ensign Tak, and this is my son, Paku. He’s due for his yearly check-up. I will be in for mine tomorrow.”
Ensign Tak
Science Officer USS Ark Angel“Nice to meet ye both,” she said as greeted them she raised an eyebrow as she regarded Paku and asked softly “Paku would I be correct in guessing ye’r near to ye’r hunt?” She motioned towards the bio-bed. “How have ye been feeling this week?”

“Yeah! I’m gonna hunt the biggest fish,” Paku stepped confidently up to the bio-bed, then froze in indecision, unsure how to get up. Tak smiled patiently and pointed out the extendable step-stool, installed for children and smaller species like themselves. Once the youngster had clambered up onto the bio-bed, he flicked an ear. “I’m fine, no problems!”
At a small look from Tak, he shrugged, looking contrite. “Ok, ok. My mouth hurts a little. Near the back.” He opened his mouth and tried to show. When examined, the gums behind his rear-most teeth were slightly inflamed, and a scan showed growing teeth under the surface, pushing up and causing the discomfort.
The bio-bed’s sensors showed him to have healthy vitals, all about average for his species and age, although some readings were slightly outside the norms - his height was in the 90th percentile for his age, although the details on his biological parents showed them to have been pretty average.

Devin smiled a she looked at Tak and then to Paku, “I hope ye find a wonderful fish for ye’r hunt.” she looked over the teeth and gums that Paku mentioned that where causing pain and looked at the scans. “Ye have new teeth trying to push up through ye’r old ones, I can either help the process or let them come through naturally I leave the choice to ye.”
