As Alex was just wrapping things up with the ensign’s check-in. He was feeling emotional. He wasn’t sure what had happened, but this time he needed to speak with the counselor. He walked to the turbolift and went to deck 4. The lift’s doors had then wooshed wide closed, and the lift had started to go two decks down. The turbolift had stopped. He had then stepped off the lift and began to head to the Counselor’s office. Not knowing what could have happened to him. He went up to the door and rang the chime and sighed.Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelMykl looked up at the sound of the chime. She was currently in a session with NE Sanchez, who followed the counselor’s gaze toward the door. “Do you need to get that?”
Mykl glanced at the woman and nodded. “I’m sorry, excuse me for a moment.” Rising from her chair, she made her way across the room until her bio signature activated the doors to open. She was surprised to see the First Officer standing there. “Cmdr Becket, may I help you?” She didn’t ask him in because she wasn’t free at that moment, but depending on what he had to say, she might need to excuse NE Sanchez early so he could speak with her.
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelHe saw the counselor. “Sorry to have disrupted your session with someone. I can come back.” He said. “The reason why I came by is my trauma of losing my past relationship of someone I loved who passed away. But I can wait counselor.” He added.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelIf he had simply left it at ‘I can come back,’ she would have returned to her current session with NE Sanchez. However, he didn’t, and mentioned trauma, loss and death all in one sentence. The NE was there for a regular check in to report how she was getting along with her workmates, there had been issues, but the situation there seemed to be improving. She didn’t need counseling as much as Becket did so Mykl held a finger up to pause the first officer.
Looking back at Sanchez, “Would you mind if we picked this up next week?” The NE was quick to stand. “Not at all Lt. Thank you for your time.” Then she was crossing the room and squeezing past Becket with a quiet, “Sir.” to acknowledge him.
Now that they were alone, Najjar motioned him in. “Please make yourself comfortable Cmdr. Would you like something…a coffee or tea perhaps?”
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelBecket walked in and sat down. “Tea please and thank you.” He replied. “I do apologize for having to cut your last session short counselor.” He had added.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark Angel“Not to worry, Sir.” She said as she made her way to the replicator and ordered his tea. “If her issues were more important than yours, I would have had you come back at a later time. NE Sanchez will be just fine.” Placing the steaming cup on the low table between them, Mykl sat down. “So, tell me what’s on your mind.”
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelHe looked at her. “Thank you counselor. So earlier when I was with a new officer who is a junior officer. Ensign Cullum. I told him about my recent past but never had the chance to ever tell you sadly. It’s just I feel bad for not coming in sooner about it. I’ve had it kept to myself but it has been on my mind. It had been a most recent thing. My late girlfriend,” he took a breath and sighed and then continued. “That I was with during the academy and while having a piloting lesson with her when she was around. And she was killed during the training I had then later was told by the instructor about it. It has just been I don’t know what happened. But ever since I’ve been here on the Ark Angel, I’ve always wanted to find someone to be with it. I know it can’t change who I am but I know who I am.” He explained.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelThe way he laid it out for her was very confusing. She wasn’t sure of the timing of Becket’s girlfriends’ death, nor if he had been stationed at the same place she had been. If it happened while they were at the academy, and if he was now a LtCmdr, years had to have passed since the incident. More clarification was needed.
“I’m afraid I’m unsure how to proceed until you clarify a few things for me. Please start when you met this woman and tell me chronologically, how your relationship evolved over time. I’m looking for a smooth progression so I can follow when the accident happened, and how long it’s been since then.”

Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelOOC: so sorry.
IC: he started from the beginning. “Well it started all when we were born. Not together. But as closest best friends. We had then started to grow up together for so long by the time high school came around her and I started dating. As soon as we got into the academy, we then started much more within the relationship. However, by the time piloting training came around and the shuttle malfunction happened, it blew and she had died.” He said.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark Angel“Okay, you skipped a bunch between when your relationship grew more intimate and how long after the accident happened. Also, how much time has passed between the accident and now?” She needed to know the chronology of the events in order to find a way of treating him.
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark Angel“It’s just all a blur. If I knew I would. I don’t talk about it much. You know.” He said.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelOOC: This is your tragedy, so you need to give the counselor something to work with.
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelHe sat there and thought. “Counselor here’s what it is. Her and I’ve been friends since grade school. We then later went to the academy together and you know we studied a lot. We went to trainings together and stuff like that you know. Everyday stuff. Once we got into our last year, it was coming to the end of the academy years and we had our assignments. However, we still had yet to finish our piloting lessons. However our test was to execute a good maneuver. However the maneuver was what killed her.” He explained.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelSitting across from him, Mykl took a deep breath. “So this happened at the Academy just before graduation? How many years ago was that? ” It took a long time to reach the rank of LtCmdr, and then a few more to get the position of first officer. She couldn’t believe one of his superior officers hadn’t made him get some counseling at the time of the accident. Something was wrong with the story he was telling her because he’d have passed through the hands of several people in her line of work before landing in her office. Just what was going on?
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark Angel“A while ago. I’ve been on board on the Ark Angel for a while. First as Chief Engineer as Lieutenant J.G. and got promoted as First Officer as Lieutenant Commander. Was mainly at spacedock for 5 years as an Ensign and now been stationed here on Ark Angel for the passed 2 to 3 years now.” He explained.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelThe more Becket talked about the situation, the more concerned Mykl became. From what he said, he’d been holding in all the pain and loss for eight years. Obviously that wasn’t healthy, but he’d either been hiding the trauma from everyone, or it really hadn’t bothered him until now. She didn’t see how the latter could be true as he’d been aware of it all this time. “Why haven’t you sought help before now?”
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark AngelHe sighed there for a little. “It hadn’t really crossed my mind. Let alone, it hadn’t bothered me till now. It’s actually coming up on the anniversary of her death actually.” He said to the counselor.
Lieutenant Commander Alex Becket
Executive Officer
U.S.S. Ark AngelThe first officer was not inspiring any thoughts of loyalty or compassion. It hadn’t crossed his mind? The death of his significant other hadn’t crossed his mind? Now eight years after the fact, he wanted to appear taken off guard because he’d remembered it? Mykl wasn’t at all sure what the LtCmdr was playing at, so she stayed calm and appeared unaffected. “I’ve actually never heard of grief taking this long to make its’ subject aware. Why do you suppose you never grieved? Better yet, why do you think you haven’t even thought about her in all this time?”
Lieutenant Mykl Najjar
CNS USS Ark Angel
He sat there and sighed for a little. ” I wanted to do it so that way it does affect my job as the XO, let alone former CE. And I wanted to allow my personal feelings to not get into the way at all. But coming to you about this was my second choice. Which to be honest could’ve been easier if you were the first choice. However, I felt that having the transition from CE to XO was necessary first, was the first thing I needed to take care of first. Then come and talk to you. I’m sorry.” He said.
