The chronometer on her wrist showed the time was 15:36 when Mykl’s turbolift reached the bridge. Several pairs of eyes looked her way as the doors opened. No one on the bridge recognized the new officer. Still standing in the lift, Najjar introduced herself. “I’m Lt Najjar, reporting for duty. I’m the new counselor and I’ here to see the Captain.”

A male in the red of command answered. “Welcome, Lt, the CO is in the ready room.” He gestured to one side of the viewscreen. “Thank you.” A quick smile and several steps later, Mykl palmed the door chime.

Ciaran heard his bell go off in the ready room. He looked up from his desk. He was expecting a few different folks to report in so he was not one hundred percent sure about who it was. He then said, “Enter.” He waited to see who entered the room.

Mykl looked up as the doors parted. She spotted the CO behind his desk, looking very official. Entering, she clasped her hands behind her back and approached. “Greetings, Captain, Lt Mykl Najjar, reporting for duty.”

Ciaran went ahead and stood up and motioned to the Lt to sit down and said, “I was expecting you. Are you getting settled in since arriving on the ship? Were you able to find your quarters alright? I hope there were not issues with your arrival.” Ciaran then sat back down and continued, “You are the first consular we have had since I became the captain of the Ark Angel. Our last consular left while I was executive officer. It will be nice to have you along for the ride and help keep everything in check. Do you have any specific questions for me at this time?” He then waited for Lt Najjar to settle in and speak.

She stepped over to the desk and sat in the chair. “Yes, Sir, we are getting settled in just fine and there were no bumps in getting here.” They’d told her when the orders came through for the Ark Angel, that there hadn’t been a counselor on board for a long while, which meant she would have to start from scratch in setting up the psychological database and would need to have a one on one with every officer on the ship. It was a huge task, but there was time–assignments like this one lasted a few years if nothing untoward came along.

“I’m used to life on a ship, Captain, so there’s no problem there. I would like your input on the crew. Do you know of anyone I should move to the top of the list for evaluations? I understand you’re new here also, but you might have heard of some ongoing problem I can take a look at.”

Ciaran through for a moment but had not heard anything or was aware while being the XO about needing to keep an eye on anyone in specific but he wanted to be truthful. He then said, “I am unaware of anyone at this moment. Previously, I was the executive officer before being promoted. The only person I would have had some concern for had to step away due to a family emergency so unfortunately, we have no ability to help the officer at this point as they have returned to Earth. It might be worth having everyone come and visit you just to report in and check everyone out. It will help you meet everyone. If you are alright with it.” He then waited for Mykl to respond.

“I’m fine with that, Sir. I’ll look over the office and see what kind of database the last counselor used. When I’ve done that, I’ll know better who needs to be seen and who can wait.” It was routine that any counselor had to be cleared by the Chief Medical Officer and the Captain or XO. “I assume you’ve looked over my file, Captain. Do you have any questions or concerns where myself or my companion are concerned?”

He thought it was funny about if I had any concerns for Lt Najjar. She might not be aware but he was able to choose her for this position based on her past experiences. He then said, “I do not have any concerns at this time Lt Najjar. I had the opportunity to choose you so I had a in-depth knowledge of your background. I am happy to have you here with us. i believe you are the best of what I needed for the position. If you want to schedule a meeting with me, that is fine. I am at your disposal for you for that.” He then waited to hear the response from Mykl.
