RulesWhat was it about that word that was so intriguing?
Ruling class
Rules and regulations
Unruly hairRebecca finished placing the last clip on her hair and sighed. Sometimes, like now when she was running late, she considered lopping of the wayward crimson mop and doing away with it. But then she’d let it down at the end of a long day, feel better, and change her mind.
Today was one of those days. She had check ins to do and a Department to inspect. She had come aboard the Angel late in the evening and been granted permission to stave off check in till morning. The RULE being, that she could only use the mess hall till cleared for more. And motions would be monitored, so don’t go wandering.
Well, it was morning. Rules be hanged, she was gonna start her day. She let the computers decide if she was wandering or not.
Stepping into the hallway, she tugged down her tunic top and headed to medical. She smiled and nodded to those she passed, secretly smiling brighter on the inside as she heard the click of minds put the uniform and rank combination together. She was the new Chief Science Officer. It wouldn’t take long for that information to spread.
Stepping into medical, young woman looked around for the highest rank in the room. Hoping it would be the CMO, she scanned the bay in curiosity.
Lt JG Rebecca Morrison
CSOThe sound of the Sickbay doors opening and closing caught Hayley’s attention. She stepped out of her office and took note of the newcomer in the room. With a smile she stepped forward. “You must be Lt. Morrison, welcome to the Ark Angel. Here for your medical I assume?”
Lt. JG Hayley Marshall, CMO
“Yes, Ma’am.” The young scientist turned her gaze towards Marshall as she came in. She lifted her hand to shake with the CMO as she stepped up. “Lieutenant JG Rebecca Morrison, Ma’am. The new Science Chief. Pleasure to meet you.”
Her smile was genuine as her greeting was. There was no pretense in her posture, not a test of strength in her handshake, if Hayley chose to shake back. Just a genuine desire to be pleasant. Usually it was a change for most officers who either got shock and awe, or a battle of who’s is bigger. Depending they were meeting a junior officer, enlisted, or superior.
Lt JG Rebecca
CSOHayley returned the handshake in kind. “Pleasure to meet you too Lt,” Hayley replied, pleasantly surprised by the new officer’s demeanor, “And welcome aboard.”
She gestured toward the nearest vacant Biobed. As they made their way over she added, “I haven’t had a chance to review your medical record, is there anything specific I should be aware of?”
Lt. JG Hayley Marshall CMO
Rebecca laughed. Heading to the bed indicated, she gave a short hop up and got comfortable. “I can’t think of anything. I’m stubborn and driven and tend to place checkups low on my priority list. So I’m a bear to track down sometimes.” She gave a small shrug and a cocked edge of a smile. “Just being honest.”
Shaking her head, she smiled. “Honestly, I can’t think of anything. Usual childhood stuff. I guess.”
Rebecca
CSOHayley’s eyes crinkled at the corners as she suppressed a return giggle, other peoples laughter had a tendency to rub off on her. She composed her expression quickly but her eyes definitely showed a twinkle of amusement as she picked up a medical tricorder and probe. “May I?” she asked as she lifted the probe toward Rebecca. Once the Lt. indicated consent she began scanning.

Nothing significant of note, though perhaps some fatigue. But given her arrival and first night on new ship, it probably wouldn’t even be worth taking note.
As the exam continued, Rebecca sighed. “So two me, Doc. Is this a ship that you’ve enjoyed serving on? I ask because I wonder what kind ship it is. It looks is it one big happy, well adjusted family type atmosphere? Or perhaps the ‘way too many ridiculously adolescent imbeciles’? Do people around here laugh or are they all dedicated Fleet members who eat, drink and breath stoic regulation?”

Hayley’s lips twitched as she suppressed a grin in return. “It’s a pretty good atmosphere,” She replied, “I’m still getting to know people myself but everyone seems pretty down to earth as it were.” She completed the scan and looked down at the tricorder. “Your scans look pretty healthy, I would say you are cleared in that sense, however you might want to hit the Mess Hall for some hydration. You are running a bit low in that department at the moment.” She paused and a slightly mischievous smile lit her expression. “Not to mention it’s also a good place to get a feel for your shipmates. Conversations can get quite interesting in there sometimes.”
