“‘Unpleasant’ is an understatement,” Rakia said, her tone laced with a diplomat’s practiced calm, though a hint of bitterness lingered beneath the surface. “If I remember correctly, the Xindi made their intentions known in the most horrific way possible—by using some kind of weapon to gouge a massive crater into a place on Earth called Florida. Thousands were killed. I doubt anyone would call that a misunderstanding.”

Her knowledge of the specifics was limited—Rakia wasn’t an engineer, nor did she need to be. Her work revolved around negotiating peace, not analyzing the technology that destroyed it. Yet the Xindi’s first strike was a moment etched into her memory. It wasn’t the mechanics of the act that stayed with her; it was the sheer brutality of it, the devastating loss that left a scar not just on Earth but on every world that valued diplomacy over war.

Ensign Rakia

Kota’s eyes went wide at Rakia’s words, shivering at the thought of so much death. “Is that why we don’t see any of them in the Federation? Cause they killed so many people?”

Civilian Child

Someone, who up until this point had only been listening in, decided at that moment to come over and join the conversation. A Vulcan man, possibly mid-50s, who didn’t so much walk as glided over. He was in loose civilian clothes, had disheveled hair with long wispy bangs covered almost to the bottom of his eyebrows. He lend against the wall and spoke with a surprising amount of authority,

“From what I heard there are a few Xindi officers in Stat Fleet. One cannot judge an entire race for what their governments did so many generations ago.”

Solkar, Civilian

“Oh hello there I am Lieutenant Becket Chief engineer. Please have a seat.” He looked over at the civilian.

Chief Engineer
U.S.S. Ark Angel

“Solkar,” he said with a half nod as he slid into a seat, “I’ve only recently come aboard. My wife is… an officer. She is occupied so I thought I’d familiarize myself with the ship. I didn’t mean to interrupt your conversation, please continue.”

Solkar, Civilian

“No no. Please it’s okay. So your wife? As in T’Mor? Chief Science Officer?” Becket asked Solkar.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Alex Becket
Chief Engineer
U.S.S. Ark Angel

“Yes, that is she. I am rather surprised you could tell. I did not believe she wanted to…” he paused, “Nevermind.”

“Don’t worry. Her and I work very well. I’m more stuck in Engineering while she’s on the bridge.” He said.

He glanced over toward Kota, a glimmer of lightness in his eyes though his face remained neutral. He enjoyed being around children, even if T’Mor and him never had any of their own. They might, someday when they are older, and when he would be more ‘responsible’.

Kota listened as the adults made their introductions. She was lost in thought, contemplating the new information she’d learned. Xindi. Xindi. She repeated it in her head. She was going to ask Tak about it when they finished work tonight.

Kota
Civilian

“So what about you? I assume you have a parent that works onboard.” he addressed her.

Solkar, Civilian

(OOC: Personal apology for continuously misgendering Ensign Tak I’m not very good at reading and my brain just skips pronouns most of the time.)

OOC: It’s alright.

[OOC; it happens.]

Kota nodded enthusiastically towards Solkar. “Yes, my parent is a science officer. I live with them and my little brother Paku. I like living on a Federation Starship. There are a lot of people. It’s scary sometimes but I like learning about all the people.”

“That is admirable, to not allow your fear to prevent you from pursuing knowledge.” he said in a tone that almost made it seem like he was smiling.

MaQ walked into the Mess Hall to see if they had any prune juice and noticed the Chief Engineer sitting and thought about approaching them to give an update but saw that they were talking to someone and decided against it and continue looking for that delicious warrior drink, prune juice.

MaQmlgh, Engineer

Hayley looked up as another officer entered the Mess. “Hello Ensign, would you care to join us?”

Lt. JG Hayley Marshall CMO

Solkar’s eyes also drifted up from the child to the Klingon officer.

Solkar, Civilian

Rikia sat with quiet poise, her wings tucked neatly behind her as she acknowledged each newcomer with a graceful nod. Her expression remained composed, though her keen purple eyes observed each arrival carefully, cataloging their body language and energy.

When the Klingon officer joined them, a flicker of surprise crossed her features—subtle, but present. She had encountered only a handful of Klingons before, their reputation preceding them, yet she had always been intrigued by their honor-driven culture. Their ways were different from her own, but she respected the strength of their convictions. The slightest trace of a smile curved her beak, a careful but genuine gesture of welcome.

“It is a pleasure to meet all of you,” Rikia said, her tone warm yet measured. She inclined her head slightly, the diplomatic grace ingrained in her since childhood evident in every movement. “I hope you find the Ark Angel to your liking. It is always fascinating to meet those who have walked different paths to arrive at the same stars.”

Her gaze lingered on the Klingon officer for a moment longer, curiosity glinting in her violet irises. She did not wish to be intrusive, but she had always found that learning about another’s culture firsthand was far more enlightening than any academic study. Perhaps this would be an opportunity to do just that.

As the conversation flowed around her, Rikia remained engaged, listening with quiet attentiveness, prepared to contribute where necessary but content to observe and absorb. She had long since learned that diplomacy often began not with words, but with understanding.

ensign Rakia

Becket saw MaQmlgh and nodded. Signalling for him to join them. “Ensign please join us.” Becket said.

Maq replied “Aye,” and moved towards the table with Prune Juice in hand.

MaQmlgh, Engineer

“How are you doing Ensign? How are those tasks going?” Alex asked. “To be honest being the Chief of engineering is such a busy job. But I know with you and one other at my side it helps. And MaQmlgh. Thank you for being there for me when I need the extra hand.” Alex then thanked MaQmlgh.

T’Shura entered the lounge before her shift so she could get something to eat. She had not had a chance as of yet to eat in the lounge and mingle with the crew.
She knew that as Executive Officer it was considered one of her duties to be aware of the tenor of the crew as she was the liaison between them and the Captain.

While she was not particularly social in the human sense she was observant from her years as a science officer. She still had a great fascination with the universe and the races that inhabited it. She would most likely never lose that.

She noted the group of officers and the Vulcan Civilian chatting together and was gratified to see that crew was mixing so well, as she walked over to the replicator and ordered her meal with a cup of Vulcan tea. She picked up her tray and moved over to an available seat near the group.
“May I join you?” She asked politely to open things up. Vulcans were naturally a polite race that gave consideration to each being’s personal space in the universe. To decrease the effects of entropy. The Vulcan philosophy of entropy was that each being contributed to it so great consideration must be given to each other to lessen the effects.

Commander T’Shura XO

Alex looked up and noticed commander T’Shura was there. He smiled and nodded. “Please pull up a chair and have a seat commander. I know not all of us has had the chance to even say hello to you since we’ve all been busy commander. And let alone, the fact that we’ve been extremely busy lately also doesn’t help. But anyways I’m Lieutenant Alex Becket Chief engineer.” He introduced himself to to the commander only because they have only met at meetings and not off shift.

“Indeed, Lieutenant. I have been remiss myself due to my familiarizing myself with my duties.” T’Pris said as she nodded and slid into her seat and set her tray down on the table.
“How are you finding your duties on board the Ark Angel, Lieutenant? Is there anything I can do or provide you for Engineering?”

Commander T’Shura XO

“Well commander. To be honest. Engineering has been slow. I’ve loved being here on the Ark Angel. She’s a good ship with a good set of engines and a good warp core. Honestly, if you have any ideas to get my staff up in numbers would be great. It’s just myself and two junior officers on board is all I have. But other than that. My engineering team that I do have, is great. One of them is actually here. MaQmlgh is my second engineering officer. My first engineering officer is completely in the unknown honestly.” He started to explain it to the commander.

“MaQmigh is a good engineer so he should be an asset for you.” T’Shura commented before Solkar’s pocket began to vibrate.

A faint buzzing noise came from one of the pockets on Solkar’s shirt. He pulled the device out of his pocket, a civilian communicator. He held it at a low angle to read it from under his bangs.

“My wife is wondering where I am. Perhaps she may join us as well. If there is no objection.”

He glanced over at the T’Shura,

“She may have mentioned not finding an opportunity to properly introduce herself to you, Commander.”

Solkar, Civialian

“By all means.” Alex said.

Lieutenant Junior Grade Alex Becket
Chief Engineer
U.S.S. Ark Angel

“I have no objections either. I have not had time to go down to sickbay either.” T’Shura said.

Commander T’Shura XO

“It’s alright commander. You’ll have enough time to do so.” He said with a smile.

T’Mor entered and quickly spotted Solkar, who appeared to be lounging next to none other than the Executive Officer and a few others. She let out a small sigh before approaching, hoping he hadn’t done or said anything too odd.

“Commander,” she said, approaching the table. She stood up properly straight with her hands clasped behind her.

“I was not expecting to meet you here. And greetings to the rest of you as well.”
