Hayley stepped out of the Transporter room and into one of the main corridors of the Ark Angel. It was almost a relief to be aboard again. It was not that she regretted the last three years of training, it was just that planet side never really felt like home to her. The familiar lines of the ship’s construction were almost soothing to her, which was nice, since most of the current senior staff were going to be as new to her as she was to them and she was feeling just a little apprehensive about it. “Oh well,” she thought to herself, “At least I know my way around.”

She continued on to the XO’s office stopping outside the door to straighten her uniform and tuck a runaway lock of hair behind her ear before pressing the chime to announce her arrival. As she waited for a response her thoughts lingered on the last three years at Starfleet Medical.

T’Shura was going through the crew’s service jackets to familiarize herself with them when her office door chimed.
“Come.” She called as she looked up as the door whooshed open to show the CMO standing there.
“Come in, Doctor.”

Commander T’Shura XO

Hayley stepped into the room, stopping before the Commander’s desk, “Lt. JG Hayley Marshall reporting for duty Ma’am,” she replied with a smile, “And very happy to be aboard the Ark Angel again.”

“Have a seat, Doctor.” T’Shura’s brow rose as she keyed the Doctor’s Service Jacket up on her screen and as she waited for the other woman to take the offered seat. “Your record says that your returned to Earth to complete a Fellowship? Was it always your intention to return to the Ark Angel?”

Hayley took the proffered seat and looked thoughtful for a moment before replying, “I certainly hoped to.” She paused for a moment before adding, “My brief stint here as CMO is actually what prompted the fellowship. I quickly realized I didn’t yet have the versatility and experience required for the role of CMO.”

T’Shura looked at the other woman with curiosity. “What were your fellowship studies on?”

Commander T’Shura XO

“Internal Medicine,” Hayley replied, “I considered Surgery briefly, but again, I was going for versatility.”

“That is logical. Do you require anything for sickbay? Any specific requests?” T’Shura asked.

Commander T’Shura XO

“Not at the moment, Dr. Koerner appears to have kept things running smoothly though I haven’t had the chance to do a thorough review,” Hayley replied, “Be assured I will approach you If I find anything lacking.” She pause for a moment, “Do you have any concerns I should be aware of?”

Lt JG Marshall CMO

“I do not at this time. Thank you for coming in, Doctor. I look forward to working with you. I will let you return to your work.” T’Shura would not have spoken in this fashion with a Vulcan. It would not have been necessary. But she had found with humans and the other emotional races that a few courteous words reassured them and made a working relationship with them easier.

“Thank you Commander, I look forward to working with you as well,” Hayley responded with a smile. She stood and with a respectful nod left the office.
