Reed looked at the time, 9:15 , good he was early. He stood outside the Chiefs office looking over his uniform to ensure everything was clean and orderly one last time. His hand met the buzzer. Bweedupe the bell rang throught the office.

Lieutenant Anders opened the door a few seconds later, a phaser holstered in his right pocket, with a tricorder in his left. He looked as though he’d been awake for a couple of hours, though he was still very chipper.

“Mornin lad, ready to get started?”

Luna approached the new security officer and the Chief with a slightly sheepish smile. “Apologies, Chief. It was a rough start to the morning,” she said, her tone tinged with exasperation. “Someone didn’t want to go to school because, apparently, it’s boring.”

She made her way to her locker, opening it to retrieve her phaser and the last of her gear for the shift. These days, Luna had started storing her work-related items in the security office rather than at home. Her daughter, Serenity, had developed a knack for dismantling anything mechanical she could get her hands on, and Luna wasn’t about to let her prized equipment become a casualty of Serenity’s curious mind.

Anders grinned, “That old chestnut is bringing back far more memories than I’d like to admit Ensign, have you met Mr. Reed yet Luna?”
