Ensign Tak tapped their sides absently as they stood at the entrance to the Counselor’s Office, glaring at the chime for a few long moments before they reached up to tap it. They were not anxious about meeting a new counselor. Nope. Definitely not anxious.Ensign Tak
Science Officer USS Ark AngelTalyn was coming down the corridor to her office with her nose buried in a PaDD, so she was almost on top of the science officer before she realized someone was standing in front of the door. “Oh! Sorry! I was reading—I should pay more attention to where I’m walking.”
“I’m Lt Talyn Kree, ship’s counselor. Do we have an appointment?” She slipped past the shorter Pipini and entered the office heading for the desk.

Tak lifted their tail up and held onto it to prevent it from being trod upon. They looked up at the human, giving her a friendly smile. It looked adorable, despite the sharp teeth. “Yes, I am Ensign Tak. I, ah, just joined the crew. I have a boarding evaluation.”

Science Officer USS Ark Angel“Ahhhh, Ensign Tak. I’ve been expecting you. Thank you for not making me chase you down.” With a smile, Talyn walked over to the seating area. “Won’t you have a seat?” Realizing that Tak might have different comfort expectations, she turned to the Ensign. “Is a chair good or would you like something else to rest on?”

“Chairs are generally avoided… somewhat uncomfortable,” Tak gestured to their wide tail, which they were still holding in both hands. “That should be fine,” Tak gestured to a couch, then checked to make sure their fur was dry before sitting down. They had to jump slightly to get situated, but the couch was deep enough that their tail was able to curl around them in a comfortable way. “Wonderful. This works great.”
Ensign Tak
Science Officer USS Ark AngelShe waited to see where Tak would land and then chose a seat opposite the Ensign. “Okay then, why don’t you give me a short history of your time with the Federation. I just want to refresh my memory of your file.”

“Of course. I trained at the Alliance Academy on Kalar. I served on the IASS for six years before being given the opportunity to become the first Pipini to serve in Starfleet. I was transferred to the Memorial in 2397, and served there for three years. I trained mainly as a fighter pilot at the Academy… it was somewhat of a passion, but I also loved science. Still do, obviously,” they tapped the blue on their uniform. “I enjoyed the environment aboard the ship, as well as getting along well with my crewmates. However, on one of our missions, I got hit. My engine exploded,” they paused, looking a little shaken, “I woke up in sickbay, but for a moment before I lost consciousness, I could have sworn I saw the shadow of Va’al’s wings. Seeing the tears of relief on my children’s faces upon learning their Ig’ta was not dead, I couldn’t let that happen. I applied for a transfer to a less dangerous posting, and that brought me here, to the Ark Angel. I do not have much in regards to a opinion of the ship, having been here for only a day, but it seems a pleasant enough ship.”
Ensign Tak
Science Officer USS Ark Angel“Oh, you have children?” She’d always wondered how the very young felt about living on a ship, but kids were so adaptable it probably didn’t phase them at all.
“I don’t have much experience with with minds that are pre-adult. I did a pediatric rotation in my training, but there aren’t many children on most Federation ships.” Talyn sipped from the mug of coffee in her hands.

“They are both adopted, but yes. Kota and Paku. Kota was given to my care after a terrible storm wiped out her family. My youngest Ig’ta was part of her Pod, so the carers thought I would connect to the child. I did, and when Paku stumbled into my arms two years later, I accepted him as well. I never thought I would be an Ig’ta, but now that I am, I cannot imagine life without my children.”

Talyn smiled at the Pipini. “How are you adjusting to the ship? What about your family…how do they like it?”
This wasn’t Tak’s first vessel so she imagined the children didn’t have concerns about hurling through space in a metal enclosure, but they might be having difficulty with social interactions. atmospheric problems in their quarters or a hundred other things.
