Kaden thought this was a perfect way to better determine the item since the tricorder is failing to find what was asked for. He then hit is comm badge and said, =/\=Kaden to Main Engineering on the Ark Angel, could you please beam down a high frequency scanner and high band metallurgical scanner? Down here, we need something a little better than a basic tricorder to see what might be going on with the cow. Buchanan out=/\= Kaden knew this would take too long and they could being further scans. He just waited to see when the needed items appeared.

True enough 8 minutes and 32 seconds later the scanners were beamed down without issue 5ft away from the chief engineer.

Kane relaxed his grip on the rifle a little, little by little he hoped the signal they had been sent to investigate was this object lodged in the cow though he worred about it in the same thought. He tried to ease the tension a bit of himself and those around him by saying. “Maybe we can hope it’s magnetic… wouldn’t that be something if with a little magnetism we could pull it right out?”

“Maybe, Commander,” Doctor Stacey replied. Although not the best route to take, using a magnet to guide the item out could be successful. However, it could also cause damage to the livestock, and they weren’t sure how valuable the item was to weigh the risks.

Kaden was once again surprised by his department about getting what was requested very quickly. The previous chief had taught the team correctly. He was always happy being left with a good department. He then walked over to the high frequency scanner and started scanning the cow. It took a few minutes to do a full scan and he knew he would have to wait for results. He then set the high frequency scanner down and grabbed the high band metallurgical scanner in order to do a scan with this machine next. It only took a few minutes to complete the scan. He waited for the results for both the scanners. He was hoping this would give a ton more data than previously obtained and help with the animal. He never liked when an animal was hurt. He then said to the XO, “I have ran my scans and now I am just waiting for the results. I am hoping this gives us a ton more detail than what a basic tricorder will do. We just need to wait a few minutes for the results.” He then looked over to see if the results were completed yet or not.

“Doctor Buckingham should be able to think of an extraction method once we figure out what it is,” Doctor Stacey stated, peeking over at the CE’s instrument to see if any results came back. They were by no means veterinarians, though most Starfleet officers took a basic course on basic veterinary science.

Scans on the metallurgical scanner finally came up. It was made up of several known minerals, or composites. The first being tritanium making up about 50% of the overall pieces structure. But also picked up was the very rare and impossibly strong traces of neutronium, which made up another 30% of the pieces make up. The last 20% was of an unknown conductive metal of some sort which seemed to react to different wave lengths of scans or energy. This might account for why scans on tricorders were so uninformative, as well as transporters unusable. Furthermore, the piece as he could see had done something to the internal stomach lining of the bull on scans, doing some kind of metallurgical/organic fusion. This would likely explain why the bull reacted as it did when they had gotten closer to cutting it out. They were basically cutting into a piece of the bull that as showing links by thin unknown metal membranes all the way to the brain he found! Separating it would likely be impossible without some more knowledge or source of control over it what the metal shard had done.

A thought might occur to Buchanan at this point seeing all the information. If this metal was connected to the cybernetic wolves that had attacked earlier, perhaps it was one vector of invasion whoever had done this used. Now that he knew what to look for, and how to refine more general scanners to filter out the noise the unknown metal took, it would be child’s play to have the Ark Angel and colony scan together around the colony for anyone else or thing that had such an infection/exposure. From there they could probably use a similar scanning method to refine trying to look for wolves and any other creatures outside the colony. This would go a long way to helping the second away team track their prey.
