“Of course,” Sadie said with a small smile. “You can find my medical notes and the notes I gave your predecessor if you want more detailed medical information. I’m an Arwan from the planet Galdor, one of five intelligent races native to my planet. There’s a lot of diversity on Galdor. It’s kinda like we have three or four Australia’s on our planet,” she said, as if that explained everything.

Due to her own lack of knowledge regarding the animal life of Qo’noS, she wasn’t able to relate the races of her planet to the animals the Klingon would be most instinctively familiar with. “The raka are very similar to the Caitians, but about half the size. The Laleri are much like the Caitians, but more similar to a canid than a felinoid. The Hatriku I can say are closest to the Gorn, or perhaps the Voth. The Pipini are aquatic air-breathers, like a dolphin. And my own species, the Arwan, welll, you can see me and judge for yourself what alien or animal you think I look like. Humans are apes, after all,” she giggled.

“I See, and which of your races would you call the warrior race?” Kalitta asked genuinely interested.

“Definitely the Hatriku and the Laleri, although they do not put so much thought and care into the concept of honor as you Klingons do. I can describe the Hatriku best as strategists - they carefully plan their battles, but when they get into a battle they do fight valiantly. Their battles are carefully chosen to give them the biggest reward for the least sacrifice. The Laleri are, perhaps the opposite side, as they don’t often fight for land or territory, but they fight for glory. Their fights have evolved into complex sports - they’ve even made a week-long festival based around a tournament of competitive sports. If you want a sparring partner among one of the races, I’d say a Laleri is your best bet. They tend to be very competitive,” she added with a smile.

She then got thinking. “With five intelligent races on your home planet there must be some kind of religion or religions. Do you follow any yourself?”

Kalitta’s other question caused Sadie to pause and smile. “Yes, I do. The people of Galdor worship eleven gods who revealed themselves to us in ancient times, and even before we knew one another existed, we all worshiped the same gods. Not every individual devotes themself to every god, most find one god who they feel represents them, and devote their worship and attention to that particular god. I’m a worshiper of Ro’an’se, personally. The goddess of spring, life, fertility, and the like,” she explained with a smile.

“Sound’s like These Hatriku and the Laleri are just my kind of people. I would love to spar with one of them.”

“Speaking of Sparing…” Kalitta then turned to the XO. “You spent time with the klingons. We should set up some moQbara classes. (Klingon Martial Arts) I’m sure the rest of the crew would enjoy them as well.”

Cochrane nodded slightly. “Not a bad idea. I would recommend you coordinate that with the Security Chief.” and he looked at Sadie. “How’s the salad?”

She took a bite. “Quite good, thank you,” Sadie said with a small grin. She glanced around the room. “The Raka aren’t really a species you could spar with, although they are tenacious in their own way. They are shorter than me, in general, so although you could fight, I really don’t think it would be an equal fight,” she chuckled slightly. “Not much honour in defeating a creature that is so much smaller than you that defeating it is trivial, right?” she guessed. She wasn’t sure.

Kalitta’s image of large warrior like people were now completely erased from her mind, replaced with munchkin sized people half the size of Sadie.

Cochrane smiled over the rim of his glass again as he took a drink. Setting it down, he said “Size isn’t the only deciding factor in combat, Lieutenant. I’ve seen species smaller than yours handle themselves very well against much larger opponents.” and he looked at the CMO. “The honor comes from defeating a worthy opponent, no matter their size. Right, Doctor?”

Kalitta was slightly detracted. She was imagining fighting a group of munchkin warrior monks. When she heard her name she had realized what the commander had just said. “Of course! It’s not the size of the person you fight that brings honor. It’s how good they are in a battle.” But Kalitta couldn’t shake the thought of loosing so someone of such small stature would make one a laughing stock in the empire.

“Tell me commander, what kind of battles have you been apart of. I’m sure you have plenty of stories to tell.” She then turned to Sadie. “You too, there are more than one kind of battle. Such as how you found yourself on this ship away from all your home friends and family.”

Cochrane shook his head and said “War stories are old-hat, Doctor. Best reserved for settings surrounded by those who may not be interested in such memories. Besides, I would be most interested in learning more about the Lieutenant and how she found herself to be a part of little family.”

Sadie glanced at her salad, a little embarrassed. “Well I don’t know if it’s that interesting of a story. My dad, he was a part of the Starfleet exchange when he was young, and I idolized that man, so… I dunno, guess I wanted to follow in his footsteps,” she smiled sheepishly. “I was clever enough for the Galdori Space Academy to accept me, then lucky enough to be a part of the random selection of students chosen to apply to Starfleet. And I guess they saw something right in my application or my record, because next thing I knew I was a cadet at Starfleet Academy,” she said with a small smile.
