Construction of a cabin

[snip]Sharah shook her head, grabbed a PaDD, and left her quarters. She’d only be in the way and despite Tabris’s heartfelt forgiveness and willingness to let her ‘hear’ she was too wary of herself to stay.

Tabris nodded as Sharah took her leave, understanding that she didn’t want to be in the way even if he didn’t mind and didn’t understand the reasoning for her underlying need to separate. He turned to the robot with a genuine smile and said, “Alright EXR-11 these panels are designed to look like old growth red elm back from earth that have been nailed into place.” He took a panel from the large format replicator and showed it to the robot and said, “You can see from your scans that it is indeed red elm with wrought iron nail heads that aren’t perfectly aligned, an algorithm I programmed to make it seem like a craftsman installed them as opposed to them being all perfectly placed.” He turned the board to the side and showed the robot a small line of faintly glowing lines. “These wraps around on all 4 sides and are a self sealing design that once placed creates a magnetic bond effectively sealing the panels together.” He flipped the board over and showed the back, where the nails would stick through were larger sections that looked like the strips on the side, “And this is what attaches the wall to the bulkhead. To release the magnetic lock you need to press the nail heads on the front in a specific order, top left, bottom right, top right, bottom left, and the system will disengage allowing replacement of a particular plank. If the entire wall needs to be disengaged all you do is take a tricorder and send a radio wave of 32.3 kHz and the system will disengage as one unit.” He stopped and said, “Following so far?”
=/\= Ah, no I do believe I can handle this and I understood what you said. My Mot----errr I mean my creators programmed me with a variety of experiences. =/\= EXR-11 said. It whirred back and forth a moment to angle into position to make best use of its extendo-arms and clamps. In the background over the open speaker on its neck Tabris could hear a muffled pair of voices that wasnt the original speaker =/\= No not there, forward, then lower the left arm urgh…come on Charles you’re ruining this! =/\= A boy’s voice said followed by another girl’s voice. =/\= I’m trying! This angle isn’t the best, the eye sensors arent suited for this kind of work! =/\= The second girl likely named Charles hissed, before the Tel’eck’s muffled voice came back on to the forefront as EXR-11 picked up the paneling to get it into place for the first setup. =/\= Uhh pardon my random replies. My uh circuits had a bit of a connection issue with the ship’s comm system =/\= It said clearly trying to cover up it was controlled by a bunch of kids and young teens.
Tabris smiled as he was faced away from the little robot, he turned and said, “Maybe I can help with the comms interference when we’re done with this EXR-11?” Tabris smiled as he had indications from Sharah that the robot was built by the kids on the ship, but he didn’t know that it was remote controlled as he misinterpreted her hand signals from before.
Afterwards he took a panel and helped position it in EXR-11’s arms and showed the robot how to place them in a 33% offset pattern like the ceiling and said, “When it’s placed properly to your liking, tap the top left nail head and the magnets will engage to their counterparts already installed.” He took a step back and said, “That was a lot, did that make sense? Feel free to ask questions if you have any, I don’t mean to ramble.”

Putting the first panel into place one handed/clamped the other came out and pushed in the nails as Tabris had said. The boy’s voice from before was picked up by the speaker on EXR-11’s neck =/\= Yes got it! =/\= This was followed by a series of shushes and ‘not ruining it’ comments in the background.
EXR-11
Tabris didn’t quite hear the boy’s voice as he was working at recalibrating the pattern of the nails given that the machine he was using had a pattern variance drift that was more than the engineer would like. He heard the series of shushes as he looked over at EXR-11 when he smiled and patted the little robot on it’s domed head and said, “That’s great work EXR, do you think you’ll be able to mount the rest of these while I repair the large format replicator?”
