When not on duty and there wasn’t an emergency going on Dinui liked to cook. She would alternate between recipes but she had favorites she would recreate when the mood struck. Her current favorite was a puff pastry called Kouign Amann, it was supposed to look like a crown or sorts traditionally but she had found several other ways to form it her personal favorite was spiraling and large enough to share with several people instead of just twelve pastries that went quickly. She brought the spiral of Kouign Amann to the lounge and set it down on a table. She wasn’t certain if anyone else would try the treat with her or not but if not it wasn’t hard to store the extra to send to her family.

Hayley wandered into the lounge, hoping for a chance to get to know some of the crew. She hadn’t really had a much of a chance to meet anyone yet and was kind of missing having someone to chat with. As she got further into the room the sweet, buttery scent of the pastry caught her attention. She gravitated toward it and made her way to the table it was sitting on. She recognized the Ensign from Sickbay but hadn’t had the chance to introduce herself yet.

“Hi,” she smiled at the Andorian. “I’m Doctor Marshall, Hayley that is, may I join you?”

Dinui smiled, “Of course, Doctor Marshall, please call me Dinui if you wish. I have been baking this morning.” She passed a plate with a piece of the lightly steaming pastry closer for Hayley, she also passed over a fork and napkin.

Just after Hayley joined Xi’indrai a gaggle of the ship’s children came merrily into 17/18 Forward. Immediately several of them went for the replicators, but one or two lead by an 8 year old half-romulan girl most recognized as Tel’eck the daughter of the Ark Angel’s Captain sniffed the air and came interested over to the table where the fresh baked goods were. Looking around she inquired. “..Oh whats this?” She and her friends said.

Dinui blinked at the children, “Freshly made pastries called Kouign Amann, legend says it was a special treat from Leprechauns. There’s other tales too but the treat is buttery and salty sweet.” She said lightly, “Would you care to try it?” Some kids over it, others would not. It all depended on their individual tastes.

Hayley took a seat and enjoyed the scent for a moment before trying the pastry. “This is amazing!” She replied after the first bite, “It reminds me of home. I was never much good at baking but my brother sure was. He used to spoil us all the time with treats like this.”

”..Sure!” Tel’eck said holding out her hands in a cup formation. Some of the other children following her lead.

As the children waited for their fill of the puff pastries their little fingers wiggled eagerly and their eyes glinted with innocent eagerness.

Dinui smiled as she played up more of the sweet sticky pastries and saw that the kids got napkins to go with their severing. “I love to cook and I am always looking for new recipes to try.” She said as she glanced back at Hayley, before she grinned at the kids. “If there’s something you would like me to try and bake up next time I have time to kill let me know or send me a recipe any time.” She added as an open invitation to Hayley and the children.

Dinui took up one of the Kouign Amann for herself and placed her fork beside it. She wanted to wait until she was certain there weren’t any questions or something before she started on her own. She just didn’t want to get asked a question when her mouth was full.

Hayley smiled back, obviously enjoying the treat. “I might just take you up on that.” she replied in between bites. “You might want to start in on yours before it gets snatched. Kids eat fast and have bottomless stomachs.” She winked at the children so they would know she was just kidding around.
