Hayley made her way over to the biobed, already smiling, “Ensign Fayth,” She spoke quietly, not wanting to startle the Ensign, “Welcome to the Ark Angel, it’s good to see you again. Thank you for the files, it’s nice to have the full picture. Not everyone is quite so thorough. May I?” She indicated the medical tricorder in her hand looking for permission to begin scanning.

Jr. Lt. Hayley Marshal CMO

Sharah tipped her head to the side looking at the doctor approaching her, “You look familiar to me, but I can’t place it. Have we served together before?” If it was from her early days on Challenger she would have to work to pull the memory. Her illness from the parasite had messed up her memories. But perhaps it was from the Academy. She’d met a lot of people there. “Oh yes by all means, doctor. Oh,” she smiled over the comment about being thorough, “I’m a doctor by trade, but I’m here as a science officer now. I’m sure you have a full staff, but if you ever need extra hands, I’m happy to fill in, duties permitting. I don’t want to get rusty.” Oh there she went again, her mouth taking off at high speeds because she was both excited and nervous. “I know files can take time to transfer so I always make sure to have my own copy with me.”

The scan would show good health. A dislocated shoulder and sprained wrist, now healed, from three months ago. Her file indicated she’d gotten hurt participating in parkour. Her paracortex was nothing less than hyper active which is consistent with what is in her file. It was reassured that her psilosynine levels were extremely high and steady with no fluctuations. Her synapses were firing without interruption. The psilosynine should be high, confirming there is no change in her condition. Any signs of lack of sleep or fatigue can be concerning with her condition, but the scans show that she’s well rested.

Hayley ran her scan finding nothing inconsistent with the Ensign’s records. “I was on the Challenger briefly. Not really even long enough to get to know anyone. I was transferred here shortly after your arrival there so it’s no surprise if you don’t remember me, I just have a really good memory for names and faces.” She glanced at the tricorder. “Everything looks good here, so I’d say you are medically cleared for duty. I will keep you in mind if we ever need some extra help here. It’s always good to have some backup. Do you have any questions or concerns for me at this time?”

Jr. Lt. Marshall, CMO

Sharah scoured her memory and though Lt. Marshall looked familiar and she had a vague memory of her in a discovery class sickbay she couldn’t recall any more. “I’m sorry Lt. I usually have an iron clad memory. I was very sick when I boarded Challenger, and the illness has scrambled my memories from those first weeks.” Sharah shakes her head frustrated. “I’m more than happy to help. And hopefully, if you have time, I’d like to keep my certifications up to date. They are all fine right now. I did them while I was on Earth doing research 3 months ago. As for concerns, I used to use an alpha wave inducer to help me sleep. Not regularly, of course, and I used one while I was on Earth about 5 months ago and before that it was almost a year. But I’m concerned with the size of Ark Angel I might need one as I learn to adjust to the noise.” Sharah might not like talking about her gift, but when it came to her physical and mental health, the old adage of ‘doctors make the worst patients’ never really applied to her, unless she was oblivious to the problem.

“Oh and since I’m here. I was transferred here because of my work on using flora to create viable medications. I’m here to take over as the lead botanist. So if there is anything you’d like me keep growing or add to the reserves in the arboretums please let me know. I can make room for whatever medical might need.”

“That may well be an incredibly useful skill out here. I will have a look at our current status and let you know what we could use. As for your certifications, just let me know when they are coming due and we’ll take care of it. “Hayley paused for a moment to think, “I can provide you with and Alpha Wave Inducer now if you’d like, unless you prefer to see how things go for you first.”

Jr. Lt. Marshall, Doctor

Sharah nodded her thanks. She was starting a new chapter of her Star Fleet career but she would always be a doctor and she didn’t want to loose those skills, even though she was working in a different field now. Sharah thought about Marshall’s offer. She had a strict rule of never setting the alpha inducer herself. If she was too tired or overwhelmed she could program it wrong and that would be disastrous . She really didn’t want to have to use it after so long not needing it. But Ark Angel was big and there were a lot of people, and if she went ahead and got the inducer from Marshall she wouldn’t have to try and make her way back here if she needed it. And just because she had it didn’t mean she had to use it if she didn’t need it. She gave herself a mental shake to stop from over thinking it. “I think I’ll take you up on that offer. That way I don’t have to try and get here from deck 27 if I need it.”

“Sounds good, just give me a moment and I will pre-program one for you. You can always bring it back to me if the settings need adjusting or double checking.” Hayley took a few moments to find and adjust the device, and also having the settings double checked by another doctor. She returned to the bio bed and handed it to the Ensign. “Here you are. I probably don’t need to remind you that it is meant for occasional use only. If sleep becomes a problem I’d like you to report back to me about it. Did you have any other concerns?”

Jr. Lt. Marshall, CMO

“No doctor. I will return it in the morning before my shift. Thank you.” Sharah took the device and carefully placed it in her pocket. “Don’t worry, if I can’t sleep I will tell you. I have no desire to end up on a biobed long term.” Of course she was going to have to set some kind of reminder to track her sleep again. That journal had been what tipped Joseph and her brother off to when she had gotten sick. “I’ll be very careful, Doctor.”

“Good to hear Ensign. Welcome to the Ark Angel. I hope you will enjoy it here,” Hayley nodded one more time at the Ensign then headed back toward her office to finish reviewing some new files.
