Sharah, much of her energy and enthusiasm subdued, wandered in to 17/18 Forward. It had been a very long day of check-ins. It had also been a long day of learning to surf above a sea of noise that was much bigger than she was used to. It felt a lot like being at Academy again, but the noise was not churning with the confusion of cadets and the hormonal mess that was. She wandered over to a line for a replicator. She saw the door to a kitchen and she smiled softly, remembering cooking in the officers mess with Joseph on Challenger. Neither of them were decent cooks, and they’d made more of a mess than actual food. She’d gotten better though. Her assistant on Earth, Yanni, had loved cooking and had taken on the task of teaching Sharah to cook. Both were happy memories. She would have to see check in with Yanni and Jessie, just to see how they were doing. Both were now, 4th year cadets in the botany program. They had skilled hands and an understanding and natural talent for it.

Stepping up to the replicator Sharah ordered her favorite, grilled cheese and a glass of ice water. She retrieved the tray and turned, eager to find a table were the crowd was thinnest she bumped another officer by accident. Luckily she didn’t spill anything, “I am so sorry.” She looked up at her eyes went wide. Oh great! I just literally ran into the captain! “Captain, Ma’am. I apologize” She came to an awkward attention while trying to balance her tray of food out of the way of getting jostled by the dinner crowd. The day had been going so well too.
