This holiday season I was able to curl up by a crackling fire with two cups of hot chocolate.....okay who are we kidding, he had hot chocolate and I had my standard cup of heaven in a cup, to interview Steven Sigle. Steven joined STF on April 13, 2005. Steven is one of the select few die-hard members that have been in STF without a hiatus for almost fifteen years. Coming out of the academy, Steven's academy character was placed on the USS Atlantis. While he has joined many ships over the years, Commander Jacen Drayke never has walked to halls of another ship. During an informal conversation recently on main chat, we learned that in 2014, Larry Garfield left the Montgomery after playing the ship’s Chief Engineer for 16 years! If Jacen Drayke stays on the Atlantis he could become one of the longest continual play of a single character in STF history. Guess Jacen is stuck as CE on the Atlantis for at least another two years. 

Aside from his chief engineer, Steven has played every character possible through the years from JO to Swing to Department Head.

20 Questions with Kate O'Neill

1. Since it is Christmas time, Santa is offering you a December to Remember sales event. If you could turn in your Corvette which car would you upgrade too: McLaren, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Viper, Lamborghini?
Aston Martin DBS Superleggera - If they are good enough for James Bond, they are good enough for me. Plus this one, in particular, is super slick.

2. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Christmas Vacation - I am a huge family guy, and always deep down want that perfect Christmas but it always seems to evade. But much like Clark, it isn't about the dream but about the people around you that make it a perfect Christmas.

3. Jack Creed has a tactical problem. His sister and his fiancee each have been chosen to guest star on Family Fued Federation. Both teams are one player short. He has to join one team. Whichever team he doesn't join is disqualified and loses to his arch-rival from the Academy. His sister's team thinks more logically in answering questions but his fiancee's team trolls Starmarts on a regular basis and has real-world knowledge of what people understand in their daily lives. Both his sister and Celina are desperate to play. Which team does he choose?
Celina - Always go with your girl, happy wife happy life.

4. You have been in the club, role-playing without a hiatus for almost fifteen years. What character would you love to bring back and what ship would you put them on?
Shaun Spencer - He was fun quirky and a half spy half shoe salesman on Outpost 42. I always did enjoy his snark witticisms.

5. If you could pick a moment in history and have a GM place your ship there for the main sim, what era or event would you request?

This one is hard, as I have a fondness for history in general but I think I would go with Victorian England, Charles Dickens and the Christmas Carol is based then and there is both a sense of awe to it, even if I wouldn't want to be there for long.

6. When you write an action scene in a thread, what theme song do you play in your head you wish other people could hear as they read it?
The final countdown, something is always gonna play up and you need that motivation to get out before it does.

7. Which Starfleet Captain is the easiest to serve under and why and the most unpredictable to serve under and why?
I think Sisko would be the easiest cause he had a war to win, didn't cause him more issues he didn't. Most unpredictable Janeway, I think being away from fresh coffee for so long sometimes could make her more irritable than desired.

8. Some people may know and others may not that your father is a minister. What is the one event you have gotten roped into by your father that you did not readily volunteer for?
Okay, this is a bit of a long story, I was fourteen and one night around 1 or 2 am my dad woke me up with a knife in his hand saying I needed to come with him. When I say knife, by the way, I mean like a friggin butcher knife. I get in the car and he hands it to me, he then tells me that they need to go to a really bad part of the time to give some aid to someone. An ex-con that knew a member of the church had just got out for assault and battery and was staying in a very bad part of town. My dad had agreed to help him out but none of us knew anything about him and he wasn't even a week out of the hoosegow and we were on our way to see him. So there I am in the parking lot, knife at my side as I am shaking thinking if this guy tries anything I need to come on and stab him and get my dad to safety. Luckily the guy thanked my dad and he came back to the car, no shanking needed. That was the thing I was probably most not ready to be volunteered for.

9. If you could live in the world of one fictional universe, which would it be and why?
Doctor Who - I want a TARDIS.

10. What was your favorite position to play in baseball?
Shortstop or an Outfielder, always looked up to Cal Ripkin Jr and Ken Griffey Jr.

11. If the Odin had a bumper sticker attached to its nacelle what would it say?
"If you can read this you are too close."

12. What is your favorite video game to play?
That is a tough one, I think it might be easier to say what genre I like most. I have always been more of an action/adventure/RPG kind of guy myself. I like big scenes and epic stories I get to be the hero in.

13. Jacen Drayke is sitting with his feet up having coffee at 0750 hours after pulling an all-nighter preparing to flush the air ducts for their monthly cleaning at 0800 hours. A comm call comes through from the Primary school teacher that the Kindergarten classes pet hamsters have escaped overnight into the air ducts. The transporters are offline for scheduled maintenance and take 20 minutes to come online. The system flush is not able to be shut down to stop the 0800 AM purge. Quick Jacen, how do you save 10 hamsters lost in five miles of Jefferies tube before their bodies are ejected from the ship without tiny EVA suits?
Let them get ejected and replace them all with holographic replicas, kids will never know.

14. Which canon engineering character would you want on your ship? Trip, Miles O'Brien, Georgi LaForge, Montgomery Scott
Miles O'Brien, he was great at his job in a situation no one should have been. Plus he didn't care about the politics of the ship, just let him fix that rusty Cardassian bucket of bolts and he was happy. Plus he was also one of the very few family men, and I always loved him for that.

15. What is your favorite dinner to cook for your family?
Jambalaya... now I wanna go make some.

16. What is your go-to Christmas movie drink: hot chocolate or eggnog?
*throws up a little.* not eggnog that's for sure.

17. What are your top five musical groups/bands?
Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, and Beck.

18. If you could only afford one streaming service do you choose Netflix to watch the Witcher or Disney plus to watch the Mandalorian?
Baby Yoda all day and every day, sorry Geralt.

19. Oh noes! The Odin is destroyed and Calin is looking for a new ship. Rivar and Morgana go to Bunky Jo Feeble's Used Starship lot with a check from Starfleet Headquarters to purchase a new vessel to get his crew back from the Delta Quadrant. What ship does Rivar choose: The Death Star 1975 edition: A unique orb design that has a powerful weapons system which can destroy plants, the Enterprise NC-1701 with top warp speed of 9.9 light-years to the gallon, or Star Destroyer with a compliment of Jawas?
Star Destroyer every day, and make it Super, please.

20. What is your New Years Resolution?
To finally find some time to finish my video games I never finished... * looks at Red Dead Redemption 2 *
