Captain's Spotlight: Captain Robert Archer
First of all thanks so much for sitting down with me today to discuss your experiences as a Captain! Please find the two list of questions below, please feel free to expand on any of them as much as you like. I kept the second interview about your experiences to a few short questions as I knew you would have a lot to tell us.
Captain Robert Archer
1.How long have you been a CO in Starfleet?
Since roughly 2009 or so
2.Which was your first CO character and ship?
Drudoc Andone was my first CO character aboard the now decommissioned USS Rogue
3.What would you say the duties of a CO are?
Engage the crew, keep a sim moving, and perform usual recruiting and admin duties for the ship, as well as training where needed of the XO, department heads and JO’s
4.What in your opinion makes a good CO and in turn a healthy ship?
Flexibility, and the knowledge that no matter what there will be times you cant fill out your roster as much as you want. A healthy ship in my view has at the minimum a CO/XO/core DH’s filled and actively posting within limits.
5.If you could give advice to new CO’s what would it be?
Be flexible and don’t rush to become a CO it’s a lot of work more then people expect. Take the time to learn how to fully do the duties of a department head and XO and even once you get that center chair. Always keep asking questions and learning. Then spread that training down to your XO and other players. Most importantly what may work for one CO who trained you may not work for your ship. So be willing to compromise and be your own admin.
