There have been reports of a new scam making the rounds on Discord that we want to be sure our users are on the look out for. In this scam you will receive a DM from someone claiming to have “accidentally reported” your Discord account instead of another user they were trying to report. They then show you screenshots of an alleged email that directs you to contact a “Discord support employee”, or provide you with links to “appeal the report.” Contacting the employee, they would then ask for your Discord credentials or give you a link; any links provided would be to phishing sites where the scammers will steal your Discord credentials.

The scammer will attempt to create a sense of urgency in you - the screenshotted email says your account will be disabled in 2 hours. This is to try to make you worried and afraid, and make mistakes by acting quickly.

This is not at all how Discord’s ban system works - users are sent a warning describing exactly what has occurred to warrant any account actions before any actual actions are taken. Discord would review account activity before taking such action and an “accidental reporting” would not result in an immediate action like this, as they would be able to tell you had not violated any rules.

No one with Discord, TECH, nor anyone else with STF will ask you for your Discord or STF credentials at any time. If you are concerned about account access you may reset your STF password, change it from your profile page, reset your Discord password from the login screen, or change it in Discord settings.
