Since X-Fleet has now been raised in a prior post…1) What do you believe the purpose is of X-Fleet?
To create less restrictive RP environments for members to flex their creative skills.
2) For those candidates who believe one of the purposes of X-Fleet is (or should be) creating more alt-RPGs in the main fleets, why do you believe previous proposals for such a system have failed? Can you point to specifics of those prior proposals and what you would suggest needs to be different?

I never said that I felt this was one of, or should be, a stated purpose of X-Fleet. But as the second SOX, I have always felt that highly successful X-Ships should have an avenue in place to petition to join the Main Fleets. I love what the X-Fleet is and wish it were utilized more. What I do feel, is if… for say six months… an X-Ship is consistently performing on at least same level as a Main Fleet slow ship, the invitation should appropriately be made by the interested FCOMM(s). At that point, the Executive would then see if the ship had, in fact, met Main Fleet standards… and if so, reward said crew with Main Fleet placement.
Thanks for your questions,
Davis/Sinclair 2020Good afternoon Jerome,
I have a follow up to this, and actually I would invite your VP and Sarah’s ticket to respond to it as well because it’s a pretty general question.
This mechanism has been discussed oveer and over again in various Presidential elections and I think in Command, and it has never resolved as (like you and Daniel point out), it isn’t the goal of X-Fleet. My questions are these:
Do the Main Fleets enjoy some special privilege as to make them more desirable than being in X-Fleet?
Simply put, no. But see below.
What makes moving a ship to the Main Fleets desirable? Isn’t X-Fleet, where there is more flexibility, more options on who can be GM, and more story options, in fact more desirable if you’re not playing a traditional character/story?
The biggest sticking point that I receive as the current SOX is that nothing in XFleet is applicable to the Main Fleet or the club. Ranks, storylines, etc. do not cross over. Additionally, XFleet ships do not enjoy the support of the various departments that a Main Fleet ship does. PDept does not assign people to XFleet ships, for instance. And the rules to keep a ship active in XFleet are more strenuous.
Why is having this inroad so important to you; if you are not advising this, why do you think this keeps coming up over and over again when there isn’t enough popular support to have facilitated it in the ~8 years since X-Fleet’s inception?
I think having the option, should a ship do spectacularly well and generate a lot of interest, to take to the Main Fleet would be a good tool to have. That being said, I would not expect that tool to be utilized regularly. But having the option would be good.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
-ThomasPS - Jerome, I am still waiting to see your thoughts on my questions posed to you here https://www.star-fleet.com/core/command/election/posts/88364/ and here https://www.star-fleet.com/core/command/election/posts/89135/
Thanks again,
Hope that answers your questions, Thomas.

I’ve chosen to post my question in this thread because I feel that it goes along with the general theme of this discussion. If I’m wrong, I apologize and will be glad to repost in a separate thread but here goes…
Three months ago, I proposed a new alt ship for main fleet, and was granted that request. One of the reasons I did that was because I was curious as to why more people that utilize x fleet focus on the idea that x fleet must come first before a ship is generated in the main fleet.
My question is this, and is addressed to both tickets:
Considering the fact that there is a viable way to go about getting a new ship put into the main fleet, why (in your respective opinions) do so many people decide to do x fleet instead? Also, why haven’t more people that have conducted x fleet experiments not pursued this course?
Thank you,
Dave Eads
Excellent question, Dave.
I think a great deal of it goes to both lack of knowledge of the process and, unfortunately, a lack of desire to deal with the sometimes… let’s just say ‘animated’… discussions that come from suggesting a new idea for RP.
I think both if these issues can be addressed simultaneously by opening lines of communication, thus allowing for a greater access to the knowledge base of the club; and encouraging people to be productive and supportive when ideas are brought forth, and try to create discussions and not contests.
