Do any candidates think that a prior ship decommissioning was unnecessary or avoidable? In that specific scenario, what would you have done differently? What do you think the disadvantages would have been to your alternative solution?

Hi Dan,

I can only think of one time that I really disagreed with the decision to decommission a ship during my active time in the club, which was the USS Paladin (https://www.star-fleet.com/prez/edicts/herr/#e31). The ship had teetered toward being unhealthy and the CO stepped down. Once the CO was gone, the ship rebounded and flourished while waiting for a replacement CO, but the President at the time still chose to decommission the ship due to declining membership numbers. To me, for it to be a consideration to decommission a ship, it has to have multiple command- and senior-level vacancies, with little chance of finding qualified candidates to fill them. The disadvantage here is that the club was suffering from declining member numbers and that needed to be considered and accounted for; I just think a better opportunity might have presented itself with some patience.
