Questions for the Candidates - Mentoring (For Rob)
[snip]
I am sorry to be uncivil, but I am really frustrated with the lack of effort that has been put into this answer.
Expectations would be new faces in command roles
As demonstrated by what? How will this be tracked? How will these expectations be communicated, followed up upon, etc?
Demonstrated by the fact we get new faces or ideas in core cabinet or fcomm or other similar roles then we usually do. Tracking would/could be looked at by who gets assigned where. It would be communicated by email in building our cabinet and fcomms what Louis and I would expect. Following up on this would be observing who picks who for assistant roles and the like.
mentoring being taken up in a larger capacity
By whom? By doing what? How will you track this? What is your knowledge of mentoring’s utilization in the club, such as it is? What is the current utilization? What is your evidence for these?
I’m not sure how to exactly answer this thomas, but in general Louis and I would outline to our cabinet and fcomms expectations of teaching from their level and in turn feed this through the CO’s on down. Right now from my observations on talking to other people this isnt always the case or if it is done it is very generic and similar to a sink/swim approach.
club members engaging one another in activities in some form
Whom specifically? How? Is this not what this club already is? What specifically are your expectations? How will they be communicated? How will you track this?
Everyone, in any sort of way beyond simple roleplaying. While the club does this we specifically want to encourage new ideas and activities which we hope generates a ‘wow thats new and fun sounding, lets try that’ in a larger role. Communications can happen through the usual channels of discord, email, pms or posts. Right now there is a strong effort by Kirt Gartner (name and event used with his permission) for example to get a tabletop trek rpg going in discord.
club membership rising and/or post quality in creasing in quality/numbers.
What is your plan to raise club membership rates? How will you track this? What - specifically - is your goal membership number? What will you do if it is not reached?
How do you define quality in posts? Would you accept a rise in post numbers, but a decrease in quality, as the “and/or” of your question suggests? Whose responsibility specifically is it to see to the completion of these tasks? How will you involve yourself daily in the club to promote these goals?
I think you misunderstood me? when I say club membership rising and/or post quality increasing in quality/numbers we mean just that. A specific goal isnt set because too many factors are in play we feel to set hard numbers so if its not reached we look at why it wasnt and work to get other ideas going. The rise in posts but not in quality could happen but then we would ask how can we improve quality it’s a give and take on both sides of the same coin. Responsibility would fall to each member individually and in turn other members who wish to take initiative to help others. As for involving myself daily in the club I am currently the CO/GM on the Ark Angel, GM on the Merrimack, and Storyteller on the Unity in xfleet (though I admit that last one I may shelve due to loss of interest and time constraints by everyone involved). By posting what I feel are my best efforts in quality posting I hope to encourage similar through the rests of the ships
Louis and I would look at why they’re not working and if possible adjust our plans as outlined. We know it won’t be a 100% success but we feel if even some improvement is made then it is a win
This is a non-answer. How will you know that they are not working? Whom, specifically, will be tracking all of these goals? If it is you, how will you get all of this data? Will you be willing to fire FComms who do not submit detailed enough reports? What if they don’t submit reports at all? What, specifically, is your goal and how is it measured?
Loius and I would be looking closely at the reports coming in, if we see a ship with constant missing reports or low numbers we would inquire with the fcomm why that is, in the past numbers seem inflated compared to what is really happening on a ship, or reports frequently missed (I myself missed my first report this last month! Which I felt bad for) in general though we want to see the numbers and reports reflect the ships true health. We wont be firing fcomms left and right if thats what youre saying we simply would take closer looks then is we feel usually happening
As mentioned above activities happening, club civil discussions rising, numbers rising or remaining strong steady, etc This then would be posted in a post in command showing our observations every month or so.
What does “club civil discussions rising” mean? What do you consider to be a “strong” number? “Every month or so” does not sound very disciplined or involved - two things that would be required to accomplish any of these goals, even in their current opaque state.
Club civil discussions rising means passive aggressive negativity or arguments or bullying tones would lessen or vanish. We feel you can critique someone without making the tone of a post crude or degrading to someone. By numbers i meant club members. I feel every month or so is self explanatory every month or other month we plan to make a presidential report of what we feel has been going on in the club, as well as a collective announcement of plans or activities or needs around the club similar to but not quite the same as a club newsletter.
And to be clear, these questions are not rhetorical. I simply must see some demonstration of critical thinking from one of these tickets, and I am not seeing it now, and frankly, that is unacceptable.
Thanks,
TB
Bumping this, as it has been two days with no answer.
