Apologies for the delay in providing more detail on our platform.

In addition to the concept of Task Forces, the other key part of our election platform is simplifying STF’s government. Currently, our club’s government comprises of multiple types of roles, including cabinet positions like Fleet Commands or Department Directors, Executive Assistants and, more recently, boards. These roles have different ways of being appointed - some are appointed by the President, whilst the boards are self generating, which could confuse members about how they can get involved with helping out in the club. Do they have to wait until the start of each term for the fleet/department roles? What if they want to be an EA but someone else is in the role? When do boards open to applications (or are they always open)?

We have seen some success through the board model; having been on the CMMB, working alongside Linds has helped keep me honest and move some things forward. This model not only promotes honesty and progress but also reduces the political influence in appointments, as these positions are not directly reappointed by the President, offering more stability across terms. However, there are aspects to refine. While boards help maintain a diverse government as well as continuity, we must ensure they support the President and wider club, with a clear processes for resolving disputes.

Steve and I would like to explore, through discussions in Command, whether the board model would also suit the other four departments. This would also give us the opportunity to review the departments to see if there are common functions that could be streamlined under more unified boards, potentially reducing the size and complexity of our government.
