This is just a general question for all candidates, both those in currently and those who may run between now and the end of the nomination period.

Assume I am a new member who joined let’s say 2 months ago and am currently on one ship in the Academy. (I believe that two months is enough time to qualify this hypothetical new member to be involved as a voter/nominator/endorser/etc in the election.) This member has decided to vote in this election, but has no idea who anyone is in the club outside of those on their Academy ship, and no one running in this election is on their ship, that is, they know none of you from a bar of soap.

Could you share a bit about yourselves such as
1 where in the world you are from,
2 what role/s you currently play/perform in the club,
3 your favourite and least favourite roles in the club,
4 why you joined the club,
5 why you’ve stayed in the club for as long as you have been here, and
6 advice for a new role player to help them in their role playing,

This is to help this hypothetical new member get to know about you and the club.

Greetings Gobias!

I am from the United States, Ohio specifically.

I’m currently the Governor (CO) of Oed V in the Black Fleet (The only sim you’ll find in STF with no GM), and the Chief Engineer aboard the Athena in the Pioneer Fleet! I’m also currently the aFComm for Black Fleet.

I think my least favorite roles in STF are in the science department. We have some awesome people here who play that department well, however I am not one of them, at least not yet. I do enjoy playing in the security department a lot, but I’m not sure I can neccessarily pick a favorite. I’ve really taken a bit of a liking to well developed characters, regardless of department. So ultimately, my favorite roles in the club allow me to create developed or developing characters.

I joined the club because I was an avid writer at the time (and still am, though I struggled a bit in between). I also have a great love for and understanding of things “Trek”. I soaked it all up as a teen, and that’s when I joined too.

I’ve been in the club for 12-13 years, with one 1-2 year period break. (I had just gotten married and life had become insanely hectic at that point, so I needed time to adjust.) I’ve stuck with it because of the people and writing. Everyone here has some talent in one way or another. I love seeing people thrive here, and the comaraderie in STF is something you don’t find just anywhere.

If I could share one piece of advice to help out in roleplaying, it would be to focus on the development of your character. Just like any book, characters generally change in one way or another. The best characters I’ve seen grow through out the sims they go through. Make your characters with unique weakness or flaws! If you give them a really awesome ability, give them an equally epic flaw!
