Good morning member’s of STF, Katy and I hope you are all doing well!

For this post Katy and I want to expand in more detail about our second major platform point about improving/encouraging community involvement.

As mentioned in our introductions post the first piece is Katy and I will be continuing and where we can improve on my past terms use of ‘Voice Of The Club’ events. This involves a monthly ‘party/hang out’ of sorts on Discord for those so interested at a time that Katy and/or I can host it. During this time we will use it to highlight events around the club on ships or different areas to bring notice to such things. We will also use it as a way to meet personally with all participants new and old about ship openings, highlighting roleplay, and making notes of any concerns. After these events each month as I have done in the past I will post an outline of topics in ten-forward and/or Command as appropriate for those who can’t attend or don’t feel comfortable talking/texting in Discord. As an extension of posting front page news about these events we would also coordinate with the FComms/Cabinet director’s to also bring their voice to members they know of to spread attention to these things and try to bring in members who are not aware of or commonly avoid such things both in Discord or on the boards outside their normal roleplay ships.

In addition to the above, Katy and I want to ‘get into the trenches’ so to speak where ever we can to talk to people in the STF community and demystify or break down those things in STF which seem most people avoid for feeling it is ‘too complex’, ‘too tough’, ‘too time consuming’ etc to bring new viewpoints or ‘new blood’ to many different roles. For example Katy and I are already discussing ideas on how we could personally approach people who could fill roles in both our Cabinet and FComm spots.

We hope with these efforts we can invigorate and excite new and old members alike to participating and grow within our community for everyone’s benefit.

Speaking from one of those viewpoints of a cabinet position being “too difficult” is my time both as EDir and CMM. EDir is actually incredibly easy to do, but I was on the fence a couple terms ago when Rob approached me about doing it. Until he explained it to me and my literal response was “wait, that’s it?”

By being more open as a community as well, such as doing trivia nights, we also make it seem like (correctly, mind you) we’re just players and writers in STF just like someone else. With both my schedule and Rob’s one of us can be available at any given time to do the VC (Voice of the Club) events, as well as just randomly run events at other times, such as major holidays or even just important Trek days (I.e. watch First Contact on First Contact Day).

I’ve got over 300 Trek trivia questions that I can use for trivia nights, and I’m constantly adding more. There’s also the possibility, because of having both me and Rob, to alternate who runs the VC event and thus enable the other to do things that may need attention during the event (like tend to Prez or Veep duties).
