In your opinion what is the purpose of the fleet reports and of posting the fleet report in command.

Okay, cards on the table up front, I really dislike reports, and not just here in STF. I have to file a monthly report at work as well. I should note, waaaaay back in the day, there was a term as FComm that I never submitted the Fleet report.

But they do have their benefits, some of which Joe laid out, which I have since discovered since my wild and crazy days.

I think the biggest benefit of fleet reports it not for the President/VP/Cabinet to get filled in on what is happening during the past month, it’s for the general membership to know what is going on. As President and VP, if there is an issue that has gone far enough to be noted in a report, it should already have been brought to their attention. There are exceptions of course (if you have an ineffective FComm who is not relaying the correct information to the executive team).

But the reports are a great way for CO’s, XO’s and GM’s to recognize players that have gone above and beyond each month, or to advertise for specific vacancies they might have. And that is one thing that we are needing more of in STF, ways to recognize players outside of just rank.
