After her shift on the bridge, Keena decided to head to her quarters and finish unpacking. She was somewhat putting it off, she supposed it might be something she’d need to discuss with the CNS at some point. She hated putting it off, but yet she couldn’t bring herself to simply leave behind the letter that Captain Julian Wood had arranged to be sent to her in the case of his demise.

She supposed it was her subconscious reminding her that they lived a somewhat high risk lifestyle as a Starfleet Officer, you could be safe and fine one day and meeting your maker the next. It was still a somewhat sore spot for her, especially since she just knew what Meerin would say. Meerin had been the previous host of Vahl and she would have no qualms in telling Keena that she was being silly flirting and generally becoming a little too friendly with her own Captain.

She had always assumed that he either didn’t feel the same way or wasn’t too keen on violating the regulations on fraternization. He mentioned neither in his letter, only that he had come to enjoy her company and had thought about her quite a bit, but always assumed that SHE did not feel the same way. She had only ever read the letter once, but yet always kept it with her.

“I never could take the super easy route, could I?” She muttered, picking out the PaDD from her personal effects and putting it in a drawer. Maybe someday she’d work up the courage to read it again.
