Ang and Hyde came out of the disorientation, having witnessed the battle beginning again just before all sight was lost of the ship behind them. They emerged, stumbling, on a worn wooden floor. The smell and sight of sawdust was prevalent. They caught themselves just outside of an office door overlooking a kind of warehouse storage facility. Wooden boxes filled the floor below while they themselves were a floor above on a walkway; the wooden railing creaked at their weight as they pressed against it. Hyde held himself up on the railing. Light streamed in from windows higher up; they were dirty and the sky beyond definitely daylight but cloudy. Dampness in the air suggested it had not been that sunny.

“I opened the door and that took me to your ship. Quite a jump. The Drachin’s lair is likely beyond in the office, but we can’t take the door. That is the portal. Do you have a tricorder with you? Something to search for energy sources?”

The entire scene, while foreign, didn’t honestly shock Ang as much as she thought it would. Warehouses weren’t an uncommon sight, despite the smells and sounds being ridiculously out of place to her.

As the man asked about a tricorder, she snapped back to herself and nodded. “Yes…” Pulling it out of her hip case, she turned it on and slowly turned in a circle trying to take in the entirety of the building. She wasn’t exactly sure ‘what’ they were looking for. But she was guessing it wouldn’t be obvious or they wouldn’t need the device in her hand. “What exactly are we looking for?” She asked a moment later while focusing on her sweep.

“Energy. A lot of it,” he said. “At this time in Earth history the biggest energy anything would be a coal fired unit. Artificial power like the Drachin would light up on your device.”

Indeed it did. It was below them. It was beside them. She could pick out the portal gateway just inside the door beside them, and beyond that was a smaller power source. Her engineering mind would suggest that the generator was below and the controls were beyond in the office. Thick glass windows were to the side. They were grimy and could not be seen through. “Anything there?” he asked. “We could go through there if not.”

When Ang checked there were no energy readings there .. it was possible.

Ang had a moment to scan the area. “There… the wall is made of glass cubes. Easily broken thru if we have something strong enough to smash them with.” It dawned on her that a phaser wasn’t something she had grabbed before jumping ship. More proof that she had no place in security roles. It didn’t occur to her to arm herself before jumping into another dimension with a complete stranger.

She frowned and looked around. Surely there was something they could use to break the glass and gin entrance into the energy filled room below them.

At the end of the hall was what looked to be an old style ‘fire prevention’ method - a barrel of sand and an axe above it strapped to the wall. Hyde leaned heavily on the railing. “We may not have much time,” he said “If they came through history would become a travesty. That is, future history. There are crews who .. deal with this sort of thing. I don’t know what that means that they are not here.” Well, he presumed it was because they took care of it and future history recorded that. Sometimes this time thing made his head hurt.

Ang glanced around. Seeing the axe, she grinned and ran for it. As she came back, she shook her head. “I always hated history. I am glad it wasn’t something I had to do for a living.” She laughed and set the tricorder back in its hip pouch before grabbing the axe in both hands. “Well, let’s see if the gym has paid off,” she murmured and sung as hard as she could at the glass wall between them and their target.

Over and over, till she could make a space big enough for her to lead her injured companion thru, she swung the long handled safety object. It was funny, in the back of her head, how something meant to save lives was going to do just that… but in a way the creators never imagined. She would open a section wide enough then help Hyde thru it before asking where to head to next.

Ang

The glass shattered. It was thick glass, but brittle. Her efforts were .. satisfying in that the glass gave way to her strikes and soon she had a space that they could get through.

She assisted Hyde whose gaze never left the room. With eyes darting about he looked for … something. The ‘office’ looked like a normal office, however. A thick wooden desk that showed its age was there with a stiff backed simple chair behind it. Wooden cabinets for files was on one side of the office and a map of London on the other wall opposite them. It … looked benign.

“Probably a cloaking field or room behind. The energy came from there … somewhere ..” he said.

Ang moved to the desk and helped Hyde sit in the chair while she rescanned the room.

A scan would show that there was what looked to be a cloaking field along the back wall of the office just behind the desk. Which meant there was likely a switch to turn that off. Hyde sat down heavily in the chair and leaned in, looking for something that might deactivate it. With a notable click, he said, “There,” and the back wall shimmered and disappeared revealing a room. Tall tubes glowing with energy dominated the room looking not unlike a dozen floor to ceiling lava lamps. There was a single console there. As Hyde looked at it, he just shrugged.

Wookiee

Ang gasped as the wall revealed the room beyond. Glancing at Hyde, who merely shrugged, she shook her head and moved into the small ajascent alcove. “OOoohhhh….” the young engineer murmured as she looked around. Seeing the console, she went up to examine it. “Oh, Ang… you are an engineer… how hard can it be to ‘break’ something....” The words were muttered more for her own satisfaction than for her companion’s ears.

Glancing back over her shoulder, she grinned with ruthless wickedness. “You just want this shut down, right? I mean… so long as it’s not working anymore, it’s ok?” She may not be able to turn it on again, but ‘off’ was easy. Now making it NOT blow up and still shut off… she’d have to give that some thought.
