Ang turned back to gaze out into space. She took a deep breath and let it out as she remembered her meditation techniques. When she turned to face her interviewer, she was once more the calm woman who had originally walked in. “You are right. And I… apologize.” It wouldn’t be difficult to tell how hard that was for her to admit. But the counselor was right. Ang had jumped to conclusions when it was a viable question. “I am ready to be their leader and take responsibility. And I’m willing to learn from them as well as teach.”

She wasn’t sure if that was an acceptable answer. But, honestly, it was the only one she had.

Liadra smiled and nodded. “Good. I suspect with an open mind that is willing to learn, you will find yourself doing just fine here.” She paused for a moment before she continued. “I like to think of the people I work with as my collaborators, Lieutenant. Know that I’m here to do what I can for you. One doesn’t need to be in distress to have a sounding board. Consider my door always open.”

“Any questions you have, about the ship, or anything?” the Denobulan asked.

Ang shook her head as a slight smile touched the edges of her lips. The shake was not just that she had no questions, but that the woman’s calm reaction somehow baffled her. Ang had turned on the counselor, raised her voice, and yet she still merely reacted like nothing was amiss.

“No, ma’am. I think, at this point, I just need to jump in feet first and let my way fall out before me.” There was a slight hitch, almost like a laugh, as the half Klingon nodded to the woman. “Provided you find me fit for my post, ma’am.” This time there was definitely a smile on her lips and in her eyes.

The Denobulan smiled an extra wide smile. “I think you’re well on your way, Lieuenant.” She gestured with her head towards the door. “Go. Settle. And I look forward to getting to know you better as you do.”
