Ordering two glasses of water Skye returned to the sofa with them and offered Kai his drink. “I can imagine, first days are always daunting, so many people and reporting in procedures.” She sipped her water and looked around in response to his second comment.

Kai, took the glass of water in his hands, for a moment was looking down on the surface of the liquid in the glass. It was still, no signs of movements or oscillations. He was chill now, and the tension was vanishing quickly after two sips.

“Yes, I just arrived this morning. I’m really looking forward to serving on the ship.” She looked at him. “ This is your first ship assignment yes? How are you feeling about the whole thing so far? It’s very different that the academy campus.”

after a brief silence Kai talked, looking straight at the counselor’s eyes “Yes, Ma’am. This is my first assignment onboard a ship. But it is not the first time onboard one of these beauties.” said touching the walls of the room.
“When I was 6, my father transferred me and my mother on his ship and I lived there until I was 18. Surely it is a different experience from just living and being a passive passenger and witness.” added.
It was clearly visible that the tension was rising again as he was keeping tapping his right feet against the floor at a continuous and constant rhythm.

Skye nodded encouragingly as she listened to him speak. She noted the tapping but did not respond to it yet.

“a-about my feelings for my new assignment… I need to say that I will miss my family a lot, this is sure. But, inside of me there’s a certain confidence in what I am doing that…” he was trying to find the right words, and after a couple of seconds he continued “…that I am ready to be a model cadet and be always ready to sacrifice my life to save the other’s lives.” ended smiling.

Taking a sip Skye considered his words and her reply. “ It’s good to feel confident in your work. Here’s a question for you, what if you never find yourself in a situation where you need to sacrifice your life for others. Would you feel like you had been cheated somehow of a sense of adventure?”

He took a moment to think. “I guess I would not feel cheated in any way, ma’am.” replied with decision and giggling a bit “I would say, that the sense of adventure it is not only the effort you promise from giving your life for other’s, but it is the feeling of being a squad, a unified team and doing what you love for something bigger, for example saving a civilisation or creating a new technology to help foreign people in distress. ” added.
He sipped again arriving to consume half of the glass. The cold water was a good refreshment for his throat and vocal cords which were a bit tired after the long day of meetings and chats.

“You can call me Skye or Counsellor if you’d rather, Ma’am is very formal and while we are talking I’d like to have things, shall we say slightly less formal. I find it helps people relax.” She smiled warmly.

“I think that’s a good attitude to have.” She relaxed back into the sofa. “So when you’re not being a scientist what do you like to do in your spare time?”

Blushing a bit for calling her ma’am the whole time, Kai was a bit weirded to call his senior officer with liberty due his education onboard his father’s ship.
He would leave his glass on a table and tell her: “I love to go in the holodeck (or if it is possible outside the holodeck) and go hiking mountains or cliffs. Otherwise, I like archery… it always fascinated me and my ego. The art of the bow and the arrows, is like a way for me to relax completely.”
At the end of the phrase, he would adjust his uniform and his seating position.
“If I can’t do either these two things,” added immediately after “I keep myself updated about the last science discoveries on my PaDD.”ended, looking Mrs. Skye from the feet to her head as he was just curious about her dress and her look.

Skye listened to him speak and considered him. When he looked her from the feet up she smiled. “Something in your mind Mister Kingstone?” She asked kindly. She sipped her water and waited to see if he would ask her about her hair.

The cadet would cross his arms and with a decisive tone said: “I was just looking at your clothes Miss Skye. I always look people’s clothes.” smiling afterwards.
“I need to say” nodded “that they suits you pretty well.”
After consuming the whole glass of water, Kai laid down the empty crystal glass on the table and asked with cordiality: “And… yeah, what about your hair? It is unusual for a Starfleet Officer have dyed hair.”
