<snip>

After the application of the hypo, he looked over toward where the others in is crew were and that they were working on his daughter. The third of them was removing his helmet and setting it aside. He looked to have a gash along one side of his face. It seemed to be a long time before he spoke. “Ships collided. They were on our marked asteroid. We moved to be closer when they veered into our path. Nowhere to turn.” His voice was clipped, controlled but the counselor could tell there was underlying emotion there that was straining to keep under wraps.

Kay took a deep breath as the man’s torrent of emotions threatened to overwhelm her. She placed her gentle hand on his shoulder and guided him to lay down on the biobed.

“Rest here while we talk,” she soothed. “Our medical staff is eminently qualified and will take care of the injuries to the others, I promise.”

While he laid down his gaze was on what was happening with the others …

She paused for a few moments, gathering her thoughts and taking another calming breath.

“Can you tell me anything about the other ship that was there?” she finally asked, trying to keep her tone more light and curious then prying.

Lt Cmdr Adrie, CNS

“Crane. Vile opportunistic scum,” he murmured. “Can’t trust the lot of them and he’s the worst.”

“Who’s Crane?” Kaylee idly asked as if she was simply asking the color of the sky. While she couldn’t help much medically but to keep the man quiet and resting until the people with actual credentials made their way to him, perhaps she could find some information that would help the ship sort out this mess.

Cmdr Adrie, XO (magic!)

Ming Xi, head rested on the pillow and looking straight up adopted what might be a position he took every night before sleep. Arms straight out at his sides, body straight. The only indicator that he was not about to sleep was his faint but distinct scoffing sound. “Ferdinand Crane. The so called captain of the so called vessel, the Golddigger.” He turned his head to look at Adrie. “The prospecting in this system is very competitive. The two planets collided are too unstable and dangerous for mining but the asteroids they spit out are less … risk. In some there is latinum. Hence the competition.”

Kaylee nodded as if she completely understood the politics involved in mining operations, but filed the information away if it might be useful later, especially since an away team would likely be dispatched shortly to the Golddigger. A small smile touched at the end of her lips as she digested what a wholly appropriate name that was. She smiled at the man and rested her hand on his shoulder briefly, before looking up to see if she could find a medical cadet to assist in his care. Spotting one nearby, she waved him over to help.

Commander Adrie, XO

Dominic saw movement in the corner of his eye seeing he had been waved over. Not wasting any time he walked over to them seeing the man and the woman and gave them both a shy smile “you needed some assistance? ” he ask as he observed them carefully trying to gather all information he could mentally to help either of them to the best of his ability, Dominic knew he could do this. That was why he was trained. So he could help people and bring them back to proper health again. He over looked the man to see what all was wrong along with over looking the woman in the process then looked at any info that was documented prior so he was up to date and prepared.

“Phew, an actual doctor,” Kaylee commented with a smile as the cadet came to her rescue. Holding out her hand to shake his, she quickly introduced herself, “I’m Commander Adrie, the first officer of the Endeavour. I was just keeping this gentleman company while he waited his turn for some medical treatment. Before I became a command officer, I was a psychologist, but that’s not going to fix this gash here.” She indicated the injury on the side of the man’s face. “He has a serious concussion and some brain swelling… another cadet gave him some trianoline, but I assume there are some other things you can do.” She gestured to the man and gave the cadet a hopeful smile.

Cmdr Adrie, XO

Dominic shook hands with the commander before nodding as he listened to the conditions of the man, the gash was easy to fix,the concussion would take more time” Well I can run some scans see if that concussion did any further damage. That gash should be rather easy for me to get fixed right up. ” He said as he checked the gash to see just how bad it actually was, Dominic was quite glad blood didn’t freak him out.
