“If I recall correctly, much of your career has been deeply tied to that ship. How do you feel about being in command of a different ship now?” she asked curiously.

Johnson raised his eyebrow with a grin. “A session already, Counselor? Makes sense though, given everything going on…”

She leaned forward slightly with a deeper look on her face. It was still a smile, but her eyes held a certain thoughtfulness to them that her wide grin often masked. “I want to get to know you. If that ends up being a session in whatever terms you want to classify it, then so be it. But I’m usually happy to have meaningful conversation whenever they occur. That, and it’s my job. Can’t blame me for making wise use of my time.”

“Typhoon was a long Command assignment no matter how you look at it - and maybe what Starfleet thought I needed at the time,” Johnson said. “But my first Starfleet career had always been on the Academy’s ships, and it’s where I came back to after the first Typhoon… In many ways, its comforting to be back in the Federation and the rest of the fleet. New faces are nice as well.”

“You have a home base, even if the name changes,” Liadra remarked.

“And you, Counselor? Having to help look after our cadets on their first deep space mission? Are you ready for the challenge?”

“Impossible to know.... yet,” she said, with one of her wider grins. “But I’ve had some interesting moments in my career so far and I am actually quite excited to share some of that experience with the future of Starfleet. My, uh, own training cruise was rather, uh, eventual, you could say and I recognize the value in having strong leaders to learn from that you could trust.” That mission on the Sacajawea was not one she’d wish on the cadets but it certainly could have been worse. She knew form the history of the Endeavour that there was a group of cadets that had faced an utterly terrifying prospect when their ship was destroyed, and another when it was hijacked. She would be happy with less drama, but prepared for it all the same.

“A reason you were probably assigned to Endeavour,” Johnson said. “I think Starfleet likes to have officers with some more, shall we say, ‘varied’ experiences to be examples for the cadets. To make sure they can deal with the unexpected situations that being on a Federation starship can throw at them, which they can’t learn from just memorizing text books and regulations.”

“Indeed!” Liadra said with a laugh. “My methods are also not always obvious and sometimes I toss them right out the airlock. My hope is that I can adapt everything I’ve learned so far and apply all the bits and pieces where they are most useful.” She fixed her grey eyes on Johnson and leaned forward slightly. “I’m also perfectly happy to use slightly devious methods of getting people into my office should the need arise.”
