Barvan stood in the turbolift day dreaming. Thoughts raced through his mind as he was to enter his first assignment outside of the Academy. He wasn’t usually this distracted, but the anxiety mixed with his naturally systemizing mind made it impossible.

The young Betazoid was one of the greatest mind-readers of his generation. The children of Betazed were known to be natural mind-readers, but this particular Betazoid male had an affinity with the ability so great most were genuinely expecting him to do great things with his life. In his mid-teens, he won a mind-reading competition were he outwitted Betazoids twice his age.

This affinity, mixed with a natural talent for the forensic sciences, made him an ideal security officer, something he embraced with abandon. Barvan succeeded well in his studies, rising the title of salutatorian of his class. After he was done, he was assigned to the USS Endeavour for his first assignment.

As the turbo lift chimed to indicate he had arrived, he fixed up his uniform. As the doors opened, he exited, stating confidently:

“Cadet Barvan reporting for duty!”
