As the doors to the guest quarters closed behind him, Eric finally let his guard down. The XO (he was still the XO in his mind - this was starting to look like he was being framed, and he would not let someone nefarious stop him from doing his job) was fuming. “Confession”? “Confession”?!”, he repeated to himself silently. He understood the situation was suspicious. But to basically start presuming that the ship’s own XO would kill a junior officer and cover it up without even testing the evidence. Rainns was starting to remind Eric of one of his first XOs - and how badly he and that XO clashed all those years ago.Well, the situation wasn’t good. He had been relived of duty. But it could have been much worse - he wasn’t charged or in the brig… yet.
I’m not charged or in the brig, Eric thought again. So I’m not the XO, but I’m still an active Starfleet commander. That should mean…
,
Eric went to the quarter’s computer terminals, and activated it. “Computer, display the personnel records for Ensign Pey Janga.”While he waited for those records to be displayed, Eric started looking to see if there was a first-aid medical kit in the guest quarters…

The CO had relieved him of his command, not suspended his credentials. Sure enough the records appeared on the screen:
The ensign was a fresh graduate of the academy and was put on the Challenger. She was Bajoran and pretty, if you were into blonde female Bajorans. Not a bombshell but definitely that girl next door look.
Her record was impeccable if short and unimpressive. She had a promising career ahead of her but it was cut short for some reason. The whole public record was available for the commander’s review.

Before Eric had a chance to look at the records, he found the quarter’s first aid kit. He opened it up, and as he hoped, he found a medical tricorder. ‘Well, at least one thing has gone right so far today,’ he thought to himself.
Eric had a fairly basic medical training all Starfleet officers have, but he was not an expert in analyzing medical data. He just hoped that his science background - even if was more mathematical based - combined with his training would be enough to make sense of the readings. And to see what was going on, with him. There were too many coincidences, and the twelve-hour lack of memories needed to be explained somehow. And if the investigators weren’t interested in examining him..
“Computer begin logging all readings from this tricorder, and identify the person being scanned in the log.”
With that done, Eric opened the tricorder and began scanning himself.
