OOC: Open to Security CadetsRainns read over the daily reports he received from his cadets on the previous shift, which had decided to name themselves the “night watch”. He thought the title was goofy, and their attempt to establish their own clique was not something he particularly welcomed. Still, the young security Chief did not want to micromanage those under his command. He read over the reports from the night bellow. Trenton and Anders had been busy. His hand reached for his com badge =^= Rainns to Cadets Trenton and Anders report to my office immediately.=^= He looked down at the padd with their reports. If the “night watch” as they called themselves were really up to snuff. He had a challenge for them, and was eager to offer it.

Ashlyn was lost in another session of Parkour, this time in the cargo hold because the holodeck and gyms were occupied. Even with the limited comparative space, there was still plenty for the Cadet to use. Jumping from one container to another and climbing stacks of crates in figure-eight patterns, Trenton has worked up a good sweat so far when her communicator opens a line. Dropping and taking a roll, the cadet moves over to the communicator to respond. =^= Cadet Trenton to Lieutenant Rainns, be advised I am currently mid-workout, do I have time to shower and change or should I report ASAP?=^= Trenton would rather not report to her superior dripping in sweat, but if it’s important or an emergency she will.

Anders heard the call and acknowledged with a swift: “On my way Lieutenant.” Luckily, Kyle had just managed to wolf down a plate of bacon and eggs before adjusting his uniform and heading for Rainns’ office. When he arrived, he noticed that Ashlyn had not arrived yet. He had a feeling that she’d been working out on the holodeck again, but part of him was glad to have one up over his usually prim and proper colleague. On his approach, the doors to Rainns’ office slid apart to reveal Kyle standing at attention.
“Cadet Kyle Anders reporting as ordered Lieutenant,” he announced.-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-
=^= This is an informal meeting Cadet, so I do not care what state you are in, I just need you in my officer sooner than later.=^= Rainns sat and waited a few moments for Anders to arrive. He smiled as Anders entered his office. “Take a seat,” he said motioning to one the chairs in front of him.

=^= Understood sir, I am in route. ETA 2 minutes 17 seconds. =^= Ashlyn grabbed her bag and pulled a bottle of water from it to drink on the way. Though she didn’t need to keep a fast pace, she didn’t see the point in wasting time. Once the bag was securely on her back and the water was put away, she proceeded to run down the corridors cautiously so as not to interrupt anyone else passing by. Reaching the office door happened far sooner than she reported, but this gave her a chance to catch her breath so she wouldn’t be going in panting obnoxiously. Once her breathing was back under control, she activated the chime to request entry. Once permission was given, she walked in to take her place next to Kyle. “Afternoon Kyle, Lieutenant.” In the dark contrast of Trenton Park, Ashlyn’s Parkour outfit blended in with the surroundings and didn’t stand out besides the fancy light pattern. In the light of the Security Office, however, the Lycra outfit lined with EL tape stood out as unique in it’s artistic choice.

Rainns greeted Trenton with the same smile that Anders had received. He motioned toward the second seat in front of his desk before opening his month. “Well Cadets I have been reading over last nights activities,” he paused, holding up a padd with a documentation on the screen. “And other than Anders pulling phasers on people, I think this little “Night Watch” group of yours is clique that is humming in stride with itself. He paused a brief moment. “Trenton I would like to inform you that I have found your service aboard this ship to be exemplary. Although I still find some of your personal quirks a bit… bizarre, they are not affecting your duty, which is all I care about.” He grabbed his glass of water that seemed to always be full and on his desk and took a sip, he then turned to Anders. “Anders, I want to be very clear with you, I do not appreciate stunts like what you did last night. Phasers are not for fun, and joking about shooting your own crewmates is not funny. Do not do it again.” Rainns turned back to both of the cadets. “Now that the important information is out of the way, I have a challenge to offer you both, since you are members of night watch.” A gleam formed in Rainns eyes and a grin formed on his lips. “Your standard training exercises and duty reports have been nearly spotless. Now, I want to provide with an informal training opportunity. ” His grin was replaced with a smirk. “I have designed a holodeck program that will test your ability to adapt to any situation, to be on your toes, and to out maneuver your opponent. I have designed it so that the entire night watch group can participate. This activity will be off the record, because Starfleet would not approve it otherwise.” Rainns said, still smirking. “But your opponent will be me, and I can assure you, even though it is just a silly little exercise, I prefer to think of it more as a competition. The choice is of course, both of yours. I can’t make any of you participate if you don’t want to.” Rainns leaned back in his chair. “But I promise, you’ll enjoy it.”

A small voice in Kyle’s head told him to defend his actions during the phaser incident, I wasn’t trying to shoot my crewmates, I was being young and stupid He ignored the voice and responded with a swift, “You have my word Lieutenant, clean slate from here on out. I look forward to seeing what this challenge of yours entails.”

Ashlyn was stunned into silence for a long moment, had the Joseph Rainns, the man she knew for his ruthless negative reinforcement, just complimented her with no sign of negativity. No, wait, there was one. He still found her personal quirks to be ‘bizarre’, which isn’t really that negative. As far as she understood, everyone had bizarre quirks, even cowboy Anders, while mostly alright, had some bizarre quirks. No, stop, just accept the compliment and move on. Hesitation at this point would be showing too much vulnerability. “Thank you sir, I strive to improve and your recognition is a great encouragement. I only hope to continue to live up to your expectations.” Ashlyn pauses again to consider the challenge, then takes a deep breath to collect herself. “I too am interested in this challenge, though I would like more details regarding the rules of the challenge. What are the limitations, time limits, boundaries, and conditions for success or failure?”

Rainns smiled. “I was hoping you would ask. The task will be on the holodeck, you and your team will be on a mission to extract two hostages from Deck 9 of Challenger while inflicting as few casualties as possible. I will be commanding a dozen marauders to keep the hostages in our custody and to eliminate your team.” Rainns held up a Padd, “the simulation will entirely take place on a holodeck setting of deck 9 with the exception of the start, in which you will begin in the ships armory to select any starfleet tactical equipment you feel you may need. You all be wearing holographic vests as well that if struck, will signal the transporter in Transporter room one, which will beam you out of the holodeck, rendering you ‘dead’. The scenario ends either when your whole team is wiped out or if you extract both hostages.”
