It would be another several minutes, making nearly a half an hour, before Tandra finally realized she’d been dominating the conversation and stopped herself. Aili had probably heard most of Tandra’s research, a lot of her studying from the beginning of Academy, and probably every even remotely interesting case she’d been on to date. After a pause, she added, “Sorry. I tend to get a bit… carried away with this stuff.”

Aili was frankly disappointed when the blathering came to a close. “Oh no! Trust me, I enjoyed it. I could listen to you all day.” Suddenly embarrassed, Aili looked down at her plate and pushed some of its remaining contents around. “Ahem”, she cleared her throat, “how are you liking this?”

“Oh, good. I’m glad I didn’t bore you,” Mika said, taking a bite of her food, which had now cooled down. “It’s good!” She said. In all honesty, she wasn’t really the biggest fan of the food, but she’d never, ever tell Aili that.

“Glad to hear it!” Aili exclaimed. She took another nibble at her food, eating slowly as a mild uneasiness grew within her. Her plans for the evening extended as far as the end of the dinner, which would ended with their current course less Tandra ask for a replicated dessert. A dearth of experience left her in the dark as to how to continue from there on, hence her subconcious yet continuous shrinking of the sizes of her bites. “So erm… what do you usually like to follow up a nice meal with?” Not entirely sure herself what her question meant, Aili supressed a grimace as it fought to emerge.

“Well,” Tandra said, smiling, “Either, we can end this date there and I can go home or we could watch a movie, maybe?” She suggested, watching Aili for her reaction. She didn’t really want to go home yet, but she wanted the option on the table if that was what Aili wanted.

An expression of content realisation dawned on Aili. “Of course”, she sighed, “that sounds lovely. You mean like one of the old style films? My grandpa had a huge collection at his croft. They were on individual physical discs and everything! I think I might know the perfect one… unless you have a favourite?” She scooped up a forkful of the near last of her haggis.

Tandra hadn’t actually seen that many movies, especially not old style ones, like those on discs. So, she just shook her head. “I’d love to see what you have in mind. And that’s super cool that he had that collection. We had a few laying around at home” She told Aili.

Aili set down her cutlery as she finished her food before gently sipping at her wine. “It’s a plan then. I’ll treat you for the rest of the evening” she put forth with a sly smile. “My sofa is excellently comfy.” However confident she may outwardly seemed, Aili’s heart was reaching a gallop.

Mika grinned. “Oh, so I’ll fall asleep here, huh?” More at ease than Aili, it was a joke, though she decidedly wouldn’t be opposed to that actually happening. “What’s the movie? Or… is it a surprise?”

Aili continued to ride her wave of her excitement yet feared losing control of her words. “That would be.. acceptable”, she murmered through a sip of her wine. “It’s a classic, at least that’s what my grandpa always used to call it… You’ll see” After her hand lowered to put down her glass, rather than retracting it she leaned in to the table and extended her arm, resting her digits in Tandra’s vicinity.
