Kyle Anders entered the turbolift and gave the command to move to Deck 5. He was looking forward to meeting his neighbours in the crew quarters, it would be interesting to see who he would be working alongside, as well as living with, over however many years he would serve on the Challenger. Anders was sure that his father would be looking down on him at this moment.
Thanks for always having my back Dad, he thought to himself. As the turbolift came to a stop, Kyle stepped out into the corridor and took a moment to look around his home space for a few seconds before beginning to work his way down what felt like an endless corridor of locked quarters. After what felt like an age, Kyle came across Room 147, his room. Before entering Kyle thought to himself, ‘Wonder who I’ll be living with?’
-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

The door lock was clearly malfunctioning and wouldn’t secure, the room itself looked like it had never had an occupant. Two beds made with the same level of discipline expected of Academy cadets, two desks with computer terminals and a desk lamp, two end tables, two standard armoirs with three drawers, two vanities with all the standard array of tools to go with it. The room appears to be completely unused and holds no personal decorations at all. As Cadet Anders was examining the room, another Cadet tapped his shoulder for attention, “You’re in the doorway, in or out, make a decision.” Standing behind Anders was a short woman with brunet hair and brown eyes that seem to glimmer with flecks of gold. Her short hair is tied back from an apparent trip to the gym based on her clothing. Her left arm is littered with surgical scars and she’s missing her right pinky finger. Trenton’s gaze falls heavy upon Anders as she waits for him to make a decision.

-Cadet Ashlyn Trenton, Security

Kyle jumped backward, luckily just managing to grab his pack before its contents were sent sprawling to the floor.
“Blimey!” he cried, “You scared the hell out of me, why did you sneak up on me?” Once he had finished ranting nonsensical, he was suddenly taken aback by how pretty the young cadet was. “Sorry, is this your room? I don’t mind moving.”

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

Ashlyn was internally dumbfounded by the cadet’s reaction, sure her own can be erratic but this was near comical. She watched the cadet for a long moment, scanning him from head to toe for discrepancies, body language, his behaviors, and personal ticks. “Left side is yours.” Trenton made a motion with her head to gesture toward a side of the room while she moved in past him to the opposite side. She moved over to the replicator and made a demand for water then sat in a chair to read a PaDD with images and shapes that look like buildings. “So, are you a medical cadet? You’re kind of jumpy.”

  • Cadet Ashlyn Trenton

Kyle cocked an eyebrow. “No, I’m security, and I’m only jumpy because you snuck up on me!”

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

Trenton lowered the PaDD and gave Anders a mischievous look. “Really now? So if we hop on the computer and look at the visual records we’ll see me attempting subterfuge to come up behind you and not you being situationally unaware of your surroundings?” Trenton shook her head and went back to looking at her PaDD. “The door lock is busted but there is an open work order already. Should be fixed this afternoon.”

“So we’re putting a combadge on the door if we bring anyone back here later then, eh? Kyle smiled cheekily, he had a feeling he and this cadet were going to get on, “Oh, Kyle Anders by the way.” He extended his hand.

Ashlyn looked up from her PaDD with a look of incredulous surprise, her own thoughts rotating through different things she could say in response to his statement. After taking a breath to calm down, she stood up for the chair and took his hand in her own. Stay calm, no erratic responses even if you think he deserves it. “Security Cadet Ashlyn Trenton, third shift rotation. As a note, a combadge will not make me hesitate, but instead, come in and commentate. So unless you don’t care, I suggest you avoid doing so and focus on more important things. Like training or study, volunteering for special events, or checking in with Lieutenant Rainns to see if he’s got an extra project or two to work on. There are also a number of social events that you can participate in to get to know your fellow crewmates, build profiles and dossier so you can anticipate things later on.” Ashlyn released his hand after a good shake, moving over to the armoire and opening the right side to reveal her uniforms. She put her gym bag away then closed the door. Opening the other side revealed some bedding and dim electro-luminescent tape making it evident that she sleeps inside.

Kyle internally rolled his eyes and thought, Blimey, only a flamin’ joke “I’ll keep that in mind Cadet.” He said flatly.

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

Ashlyn huffed out a laugh and settled into the bedding inside the closet space. “Relax, you do you and I’ll do me. Good night.” With that, Ashlyn pulled the closet door closed, once again hiding any sign that she was ever present in the room.

Kyle rolled his eyes. “And a good night to you too,” he mumbled. He noticed that according to ship’s time it was only 1700 hours, he thought now would be an appropriate time to leave and head for the counselor’s office. Don’t want to poke the bear too much he thought. After making sure that he had completely unpacked, he rounded on the door and made his way towards Deck 3.

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

Greg Pricer had finished with his medical check in and wanted to find the quarters he would be calling home. After getting to Deck 5, he doubled checked his PaDD to make sure he didn’t walk into the wrong room. Looking up at the numbers as he walked, he finally found Room 142. Greg walked in happy to find a room in that looked ready for inspection. Either he had a roommate who shared his appreciation for a spartan room or he just had not been assigned one yet. After getting unpacked, he changed into athletic gear and stepped out to use the gym. When Greg stepped into the hall he saw a fellow cadet coming from a nearby room who was also heading for the turbolift.
“Hello, Cadet Greg Pricer, Security,” he said, offering his hand.

Cadet Greg Pricer-Security

Kyle stopped briefly as he noticed the other cadet moving towards his door.
“Wow, I wasn’t expecting to be sharing with so many people, Kyle Anders mate, good to meet you, oh, and be careful, our roommate doesn’t seem to be a people person.” Kyle sent his apologies for not staying to make introductions and made his way to the turbolift.

-Cadet Kyle Anders: Security-

“Actually I’m just a couple doors down in 142. Thankfully the ship isn’t that small that we have to cram three to a room,” Greg said, silently thankful he wasn’t going to be rooming with them after hearing the bickering while he was unpacking. He hoped when his roommate was assigned there wasn’t going to be any drama.
