Junior Lieutenant Mika had spent all night experimenting and studying the parasite. It was in the early morning that she returned to the Sickbay and spoke to the nurse. “Yes, treat Rainns and let him out of the Cargo Bay. I’m sure he has work of his own to attend to… and get those parasites out of my Cadet.” She felt that it likely did have effects on humans as well as betazoids, but the Psilosynine had sent them into a frenzy in Fayth. She theorized that Rainns would also have become symptomatic had they allowed the infection to worsen. But she was glad they’d caught it.

NE Nurse took the hypo spray and administered it to Fayth. It would be hours, and several more treatments before any improvement was seen. She entered the schedule into the notes above Fayth’s biobed. Then she checked the notes Lt. Mika had made and made a dose for Lt. Rainns and headed out.

Several Hours Later
“Dr. Mika! Cadet Fayth is waking up!”

Mika had been up still, writing notes and recording all her findings on the parasite, including detailed drawings of what it looked like, symptoms Fayth had shown, recorded effects, and space for additional notes on Fayth’s recovery. She’d nearly fallen asleep at her desk when NE Nurse called for her, and she quickly jumped up, racing out to the biobed. Stopping near to the bed, she said, “Cadet Fayth. Glad to see you back with us.”

Fayth blinked up at her, her eyes were clear but she was very confused, “What…” she coughed and moistened her lips, “What happened?” She was trying to remember what had happened but everything was very hard to recall. “Everything is quiet.” She looked at Mika very alarmed, “it’s quiet, I can’t ‘hear’ anything. What happened?”

The NE Nurse handed Mika a white board to communicate with Fayth with, until her hearing returned, and so Mika wrote, You had a parasitic infection, which is going to be cured soon. The legions caused by the parasites damaged parts of your brain, but it is nothing that won’t heal. Your hearing should return before long. And then, she drew a smiley face.

Sharah looked even more confused, “My hearing? My hearing is fine, I can’t,” she tapped her head, “OH....” she began to laugh at her own mistake, but then stopped when the movement made her head spin. “Not my ears, Lt. My telepathy, it’s gone.” Sharah assumed that would heal as well, but did she really want it to? It was SO quiet, so calm. This is what it’s like to be alone with your own thoughts.

Mika laughed, shaking her head. “I’m sure it will come back. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy some quiet.” She said, smiling at the Cadet. “I’m keeping you here to rest for now - and then you’ll be off duty a while longer to recover.”
