After the sedative wore off the first time, a regular dosing schedule was set up to keep Sharah quiet. She appeared to sleep, though there were times her face registered pain. There were similar incidences in the medical logs of Betazoid collapsing. The most notable was Lwaxana Troi. Apparently is was caused by a psychic overload. From what Mika could tell it was almost like what happened to Earth patients of the 21st century that suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Ambassador Troi had blacked out when a particularly painful memory had been unlocked by an incident on the ship. Her daughter with the help of a Cairn delegate. Unfortunately Mika had access to neither a family member or a member of the Cairn race.
The difference being that Ambassador Troi was non responsive to any stimulation. Mika knew Sharah was responsive to physical stimuli between doses of sedative, but she had no idea of she telepathically responsive stimuli, she didn’t know of anyone on board who could tell her.
All scans of patients like this showed abnormalities to the paracortex. In Ambassador Troi’s case here paracortex had become enlarged and swollen. A danger of burn out and then brain damage was imminent without help. Of there could simply be minor distress to the paracortex, much like a pulled muscle. Tissue regeneration sometimes helped and even anti-inflammatories had been recommended, but there was no decisive answer if those things would really work on someone like Sharah, but they didn’t hurt her either. It was the course of action given when she was in the hospital when she was 15.Someone would have to investigate her routine to determine if, when, and what had happened. It could be a parasite or virus. Where she had been and what she was doing could rule out a lot of things.
In main sickbay the NE and little girl came back in. “Nurse, Dr. Fayth told me to bring her back in this morning to make sure her leg had healed okay. Is she here? My sister really liked her.” The nurse smiled down at the little girl and pulled up the report. This was the last patient Cadet Fayth had seen on shift last night. The nurse really liked Fayth. She was good with the patients and compassionate. “Choose a biobed and I will go get Dr. Mika.”
The nurse went over to Mika’s office, “Excuse me, Lt. Mika. There is an NE and her little sister here.” She passed over the PaDD, “Apparently this little girl was the patient Cadet Fayth saw last night.”
Cadet Fayth, Doctor
It was at this moment that Joseph Rainns, carrying with him a padd and frown, entered the sickybay, nodding at the staff present and making his way to the Biobed where Fayth lay. He noticed that she was unconscious and double backed to Mika’s office. “Hey Doc, hate to bother you but I need to make an inquiry into what happened last night, so if you don’t mind I’ll be observing your medical investigation as to include in my own.” Rainns felt that he more or less knew what happened, but two things had alluded him. One, why Fayth had been attempting to dam up her thoughts, and two, what caused those thoughts to completely overrun her. It had become a security matter because in her erratic state she asked for a hand phaser.

“Lt. Rainns?” NE nurse walked over. “I’m sorry, Lts. I just thought you might want to talk to this ensgin and her sister. They were the last patients that Cadet Fayth saw last night.” She pointed to the biobed across from Lt. Mika’s office. A young ensign with her younger sister were sitting on a bio bed waiting to be seen.”
NE Nurse
“Thank you nurse,” Rainns replied, he made his way over to where the two were sitting, “Hello, ‘m Lt. Joseph Rainns, I’m just here to ask a few questions concerning the doctor’s health, and you two where the last to see her yesterday evening,” He pulled up a chair and sat in front of both individuals. Can I get your names please?” he asked. As they gave him their names he looked them up on the ship’s manifest to identify them and look at their ages and to see if either of them could be linked to telepathy in any way, whether it be something to do with their species or other characteristics.
L.T. J.G. Joseph Rainns- COS.
Neither were telepathic, nor had any familial connection to anyone known to be telepathic. NE “I’m Jane, and this is Jill. We came in last night because my little brother bushed Jill down and she hurt her leg really badly.” Looking up why children were on board showed that NE Jane had gotten permission for her younger botherr and sister to come onboard for 3 days to await Jane’s transport back to the academy for graduation.
Jill looked at Rainns and frowned, “Dr. Fayth is sick? But she’s SO nice. I was SO MAD at Robby. He pushed me and made me break my leg. Dr Fayth said I couldn’t stay mad at him because he’s my brother. She took my anger away and she was so funny I forgot to be scared.”
Jane shook her head, “Jill she didn’t TAKE it away, she just helped you stay calm.” But the wording caught Rainns’ attention. “But she did Jane. She told me all about her brother too and how he’s older than her and used to play aweful pranks on her too. But it was funny.” Jill laughed at the memory of Fayth’s silly stories.
“She was really great with Jill. She just kept murmmering silly little things to her the whole time. By the time we left, Jill wasn’t upset anymore. She must specialize in pediatrics, because she was SO good with her,” Jane added.
