Sharah got a message on her comm panel from Ashlyn. It contained directions for requesting a very unique outfit. Shoes with finger holes for her toes??? Spandex and a cover up? What was Ashlyn getting her into? Sharah shook her head and ordered the clothes from the replicator. While she got ready she slowly checked each of the dams in her head. Of course it was all just pictures, but Sharah understood that. She had spent quite a bit of time last night emptying them. The idea seemed to work, but she didn’t have the ‘flow’ adjusted just right. Each one needed a different amount allowed through or the whole thing fell apart. She only had 2 dams right now because she wasn’t able to focus on more than that and her every day tasks just yet. But Ashlyn had no shortage of ideas on how to help Sharah practice. She also had a wicked sense of humor and had no problem telling Sharah she was being ‘chicken.’ A much different experience than her helicopter parents.Sharah entered the gym and spotted Ashlyn, “Okay so I have no idea what we are doing today, but today you talk. We are friends, right? And we help each other. You have spent a lot of time helping me, so now we are going to help you a little too. I mean I could just listen” she tapped her head, “but you need to tell it right? That’s what you told me.” She smiled at Ashlyn as if sharing a conspiracy. “We’re going to finish this Cadet tour and get posted on our dream positions, right?”

Ashlyn was dressed in similar garb though in more blues and greens giving it a glacial look, her short hair was tied back to ensure it wouldn’t fall into her face revealing a few extra scars usually hidden by her hair and making her eyes stand out more. She was already in the gym setting up several small mats a few feet apart from each other and some randomly sized boxes in varied places. Though her body language shows a plan, it looks more like she just tossed everything around and made a mess. When Sharah came in, Ashlyn smiled at her and let her say everything she had to say before chuckling, “Wow, you’re nervous. Don’t be, there isn’t any way you’ll get hurt today unless you swan dive from a box onto your head. So please don’t do that.” Ashlyn reached out to take Sharah’s hand if she lets her and lead her to the center of the mess in the room.
“I’ll talk while we loosen up, trust that you want to be good and limber while we fall on our faces.” Ashlyn starts moving her limbs in smooth motions, “So I know I haven’t told you yet, but I plan to go into Investigations or Internal Affairs with Starfleet Intelligence. So while we would love to have our dream jobs, any professional meeting after the fact will likely be less than pleasant given the purpose of either of those fields being present.” The motions of Ashlyn’s arms moved to her body as she twisted her hips and core into something that looks more like a dance. “I’m hoping that while I’m with Starfleet Intelligence, I can eventually enact real change that will help the fringe worlds have better access to Federation support and minimize the amount of corruption we find on them.” Ashlyn went into a squatting position and rotated her torso and shoulders. “I really want to do something to make sure that my own tragedies don’t happen to anyone else. I know it’s a real hard dream to achieve, but I’m going to try.” Ashlyn laid on her back this time to rotate her legs in various ways, ending in a hand stand before re-balancing herself to her feet. “Alright, you ready to learn to trust yourself?”

As Ashlyn talked Sharah tried to follow along with the stretches. Sharah got the hang of it as they were variations of stretches from the Mak’Bara. The hand stand looked really hard, and since she never had been allowed to do complicated athletics it was hard. Halfway into the hand stand she fell, right on her face. Sharah started laughing, “Oh I’m horrible at this!” She got up, looked at Ashlyn and nodded. “I’m ready to try. No wait.” Sharah sat down on the mat, lotus style and closed her eyes. She wanted to check those dams in her head first. After a few minutes she stood back up, “Okay, now I’m ready.”

Ashlyn gave Sharah a flat look, “No. No no no no no. What was that? Were you checking on yourself? Sweetie, that’s self doubt. Nothing will demolish that dam in your mind faster than self doubt. I’m glad I have you here today, because the first lesson in Parkour is learning to trust yourself and your body. Our bodies are amazing things with awesome abilities for self preservation. Our instincts are still a strong part of us and almost nothing knows the limits of our bodies better than our instinct. So the first thing we’re going to do is a basic falling exercise because let’s be honest, gravity is a thing and it likes to be checked regularly.”
Ashlyn moves next to Sharah so they are shoulder to shoulder, “Alright, part one. To fall, you have to jump first. So we do a squat, keep your feet about hip width apart, and as you bend down keep the weight in the heel of your feet.” Ashlyn shows Sharah by example, going into her own pre-jump position. “Okay, the important thing here is basics for Betazoids. Feel everything. Believe me, I’m going to ask you about it after the jump. For the jump, I want you to roll forward to the ball of your feet and push off with all the strength you have! Then, while in the air, I want you to pull your legs back up under yourself. When you land, only extend your legs enough to absorb the impact of your weight. Shouldn’t make too much noise. We go on three. One, two, three!” Ashlyn pushed off the ground and into the air. When the pair of them land and are back upright, she turned to Sharah with a wild smile, “Now tell me, in as much detail as possible, how did that feel. Don’t leave anything out!”
