“That sounds lovely, thank you,” Hayley replied while choosing a chair facing the desk. Her eyes wandered briefly back to the bookshelves before she sat and finally made eye contact. One corner of her mouth quirked slightly upward (quickly suppressed) as she noted the glasses for the first time.

OOC: I haven’t posted a bio yet but I am working on it… but her records would show that she is the first in several generations of her family to pursue any kind of off-earth endeavor.

IC: Korczak turned and said “Oh, no. Please sit over there.” and he nodded in the direction of the seating area away from the desk. “I find having a desk between me and others puts up an unnecessary boundary. And in here, we can discuss… well… anything.” and he set the tray on the low table and placed the tea in the kettle to steep.

Hayley stood and then seated herself in one of the single chairs in the open area, looking around the office openly and no longer trying to hide the fact that she was curious about the books and photographs. “Your office reminds me of Dr. Rentz’s study back home.” she remarked, “He really loves his books. I used to spend hours in there reading them”

Koczak looked at her and said “Dr. Rentz? A friend of yours, perhaps?” he asked in his odd accented voice. “Perhaps someone who encouraged the pursuit of medicine?”

“Yes sir, “Hayley answered, “Dr. Jarod Rentz is the Sr. Physician in our community back on Earth. Even when I was a little girl he was willing to talk with me about science and medicine. His stories about serving in Star Fleet fascinated me. I was drawn to it all from a very early age, much to my parents chagrin.”

Koczak looked at her intently and a small furrow of his brow appeared. “They, your parents that is, do not approve of your choice?”

“Only initially,” Hayley replied, “Once they realized I was serious about it they respected it even if they didn’t necessarily understand it. There was some underlying disappointment that I wasn’t another family artist, but they weren’t going to tell me who to be. One thing about artists, they have a great deal of respect for individuality.”

Korczak chuckled and said “Most do, yes. Tell me about Doctor Rentz. Are they still someone you speak to?”

“Oh yes, we’ve stayed in touch,” Hayley replied, “He told me he expected our regular progress reports to continue.” She shook her head and smiled, “It’s been wonderful having someone like him looking out for me. I hope to be as good a mentor for someone else some day.”

He nodded and then asked “So are you specializing in any particular segment? Or staying in generalized medicine?”

“Emergency medicine has been my primary focus so far,” She answered,” but I’d like to complete a Residency in Cardio-Respiratory Medicine someday as well. The intricacy of it is pretty amazing. I’m thinking that will come later though. Right now I am pretty happy with what I am currently doing. I like being able to provide immediate aid to people.”

“And your xenobiology and physiology is of a level you feel comfortable treating non-humans?”

“Actually, that’s an area I know I need to expand on,” Hayley answered, “I have the Academy Med School training, of course, but that only goes so far. I’ve also only had limited actual experiences treating non-human species.” She paused to have a sip of tea, “I guess this is my opportunity to do so.”

“Might I suggest volunteering to do on-boarding physicals? That is a non-invasive way to familiarize yourself not only with the physiology of other species, but also how to interact with them.”
