Two steps taken, one step remains. Kast thought, the big Caitian’s long legs eating up the distance between the medical office and the counseling centre. This was the part he was less sure of.Oh, he was mentally fit. He’d passed all evaluations, albeit with the occasional yellow flag. But his time as an Acolyte had conditioned him to be wary of those who wanted to test his mental state.
You’d still BE an acolyte if it hadn’t, but you’re here now so behave and stop fretting. He told himself.
Taking a breath outside the counselor’s office, he took a second to center his thoughts.
Then he stepped inside, resuming his stance of attention, eyes on the bulkhead behind the counselor’s desk.
“Cadet Satyol Kastyi, reporting for Aboarding psychological evaluation, as ordered.” And he presented his PaDD with all relevant records keyed up.
Maybe after this I can finally get my berth assignment. He thought, as he awaited the officer’s response.

(Cadet Satyol, Science)The office on the other side of the door was unlike any area in the rest of the ship. It was lit in a more subdued manner than the rest of the ship, with the light coming from wall lamps rather than the typical overhead lighting. Multiple bookcases with glass enclosed shelves lined one wall, filled with copies and originals of many texts on many different subjects, and a quick glance would show multiple languages as well. The desk was set at an angle against the opposite wall to the door in the corner, allowing for a large open space in the middle. Here there was a couch and a few chairs, one of which sat in front of and facing away from the desk. Pictures hung on the walls, some were even old photographs. Each depicted either places, individuals, or groups of people, and many were in black and white.
The Counselor was wholly plain looking; in fact so nondescript that he almost blended in with the office. His voice, on the other hand, was distinctive. “Hello. I am Lieutenant Commander Korczak. Please have a seat, Cadet? I trust your trip to the ship was uneventful?” The man had a most unusual accent, as if two wholly unrelated accents were vying for control. Even with that, his speech was clear and articulate; with crisp pronunciation and diction. The only other noticeable fact of the man were the glasses perched on his nose… actual glasses.

Well. Glasses were an affectation that was rare in this day and age. But it was at least stylish, he had to admit that. The cadet nodded and sat down where indicated. “Absolutely so, Lieutenant. Meeting my Department Head was actually more lively than the trip here, I’ll admit.” The Caitian’s right ear twitched with the admission, bajoran earring giving a jingle as he smiled.

Korczak smiled slightly and said “Be sure you get ranks correct, Cadet. I am not much for the structure, but it serves it purpose.” and he tapped his collar where Lieutenant Commander pips showed. “And are you settling in on board well? Any issues with your quarters?” he asked in a friendly tone, quickly changing the subject.
Korczak, CNS
The Caitian grimaced, ears laying flat with irritation at himself. “Apologies, Lieutenant Commander. And I’m doing well so far, but I haven’t been to my quarters yet. I wanted to complete onboarding before I swung by. Probably a mistake, in light of carrying my bags around all day so far.” He tried to recover from the earlier mistake with a bit more humor.

Korczak said “Some advice going forward. Always visit your quarters first. Make sure everything works, everything is there that should be, and the room is to your liking. Operations can fix things as you go through your check ins. Saves you much time and inconvenience.”

The cadet chuckled, nodding. “Noted sir, I will remember to do that. It’s been a lively day so far, but I’m cleared for department duty and passed my physical, at least.”

Korczak smiled and nodded in approval. “Good. Good. Then let’s tick off the last box, as it were, shall we? So tell me… why did you choose Star Fleet?”
