Frantically, Anders scrambled to try and retain the signal, to no avail. Though Starfleet taught him not to jump to conclusions, he could safely say that the miners were in immediate need of assistance. And it pained him, that Challenger was still days out from the mine.

“We’ve lost them, Captain.” He said, pausing to let out a distressed sigh before adding, “If we draw auxiliary power from the main deflector array, we could fire a directed EMP waveguide that should counterbalance and override the orbital interference, at least momentarily. If they’re still attempting to reach us, we could set up unfettered contact.”

The adrenaline began to pump as he finished speaking, and the pain flared up along his right arm. Gritting his teeth, the cadet ignored it and awaited further orders.

Emmy’s own distressed sigh was caught at her lips and she blew out a light puff of air instead. “Go ahead,” she nodded in response to the scientist. It would be best if they could get more information directly from the source, but she couldn’t help but think that it was unlikely they would be able to get through the interference. Instead, they would simply be flying blind into a potential volatile situation. Life was certainly not boring aboard Academy ships.

Cadet Rainns looked around from his tactical station for a few moments before he spoke. “Is it advisable that we run headlong into a scenario in which we are not aware of the extenuating circumstances?” he wondered out loud. “Shouldn’t we notify starfleet and wait for orders? We are just an academy starship after all.”
