Korczak’s blank face looked at her, again waiting a few heartbeats after she had finished speaking, before he said “I see.” And his eyes seemed as if they were searching for something in her own, but he was not finding what he sought. “And if I said there were multiple candidates for the post, would your response change? And do you consider yourself to be… ‘a good fit’ for the Challenger?”
Korczak, CNS
“I’m very organized?” Emmy offered, a hint of desperation sneaking into her tone as she sought for the words that Korczak wanted her to say so that she could get back to evaluating the various aspects of her new assignment. She took a deep breath, feeling the cool air rushing into her nose and the heated air escaping from between her slightly parted lips. “I have exemplary evaluations and I have been very successful navigating a variety of novel situations. Salvage operations sounds routine, but there are frequently many competing desires to handle. While I have not served in an Academy position in the past, there is significant overlap in the skill set required.” Her voice had returned to its more cool affection as she provided the assessment of Starfleet’s reasoning for placing her in the CO position. If this didn’t satisfy Korczak, she thought, her next recommendation would be that he speak to Starfleet directly.
Davis, CO
OOC: Bump. :)
Korczak nodded slightly, and said “Quite logical and sound reasoning, Captain. I would assume much of that same evidence was taken into consideration, as well. But to my last question. Do you consider this a good fit for you? I mean… are you happy being assigned here, Captain?”
Korczak, CNS
Emmy’s face took a more cool and collected turn again as Korczak acknowledged her reasoning. “I’m happy to be assigned wherever Starfleet would like to assign me,” she responded, crisply. It was the truth and, if he wasn’t willing to accept that, they were going to be here for a while. To that vein, she added a second statement to her response. “I’m aware of the unique challenges and opportunities that being in command of an Academy ship offers and I welcome them.”

Korczak nodded and stood up, turing and walking behind his desk. Taking a seat, he tapped a few commands into the desk interface. “Very well, Captain. I appreciate your time. I have concluded my assessment.” he said abruptly, his odd accent lending a strange sense of either satisfaction or frustration to his words… hard to tell with the whatever strange dialect he hailed from.
Emmy resisted the urge to let out a sigh of relief that she had finally identified the words that the counselor wanted to hear. The intricacies of his spoken tone sailed past her as she began to rock her weight forward onto her feet in preparation for departing his office.
Korczak then looked up and said “Now that we have the formalities out of the way, I assume you may have some questions for me… at least, I would hope you do. I would find no small amount of concern if you didn’t.” He followed the last sentence with a small smile.
Korczak, CNS
Her face growing slightly ashen, Emmy visibly forced herself to sit back in the chair again. She hadn’t been prepared to ask Korczak any questions, given the goal of this meeting was to clear her for duty. If she had known that would be an expectation, she likely could have jotted a series down. The thoughts raced through her mind as her eyes unfocused slightly to contemplate them, finally settling on something that seemed to be innocuous. “Is there anything I should know about the Challenger, Commander?”
Davis, CO
Korczak smiled innocuously and said “Shr is a fine ship, but her crew can be a bit transient. I would speculate that that is not the norm in the Fleet. That being said, I have found only certain issues with anyone assigned here. And only once have I refused to allow someone to remain. So I assume that Command has some decision making paradigm in place for their selection process.” and he cocked his head slightly to the side and looked intently at Davis.
“What else would you like to know, Captain?” he asked, as if expecting without a doubt .ore questions would follow.
Korczsk, CNS
Emmy offered a confirmatory nod to his statement. She had expected as much when she took the posting and it had been one of her bigger concerns. Change was not her strong suit. She pondered any further questions for a few moments, feeling the sense of discomfort rising again. Her eyes lit slightly as an idea occurred to her and she raised one eyebrow at Korczsk. “Is there anything you feel I should know, Commander?”
Davis, CO
Korczak grinned slightly and said “Oh, a great many things Captain. But unless you possess a strong sense of precognition and are qualified to be a Department Head in all sections I will assume that you have arenas in which you, like the rest of us, need more assistance in than others. But if there is something I would like to see in a Commanding officer? Loyalty, dedication, the ability to remain calm in a crisis… and a curiosity about those whom they are in charge of.”
