The group moved through the alien forest around the edge, it was a hard walk the forest was dense with undergrowth here, more dense that the rest of the forest. Moving around the outer edge was going to take a couple hours. As they moved, Cadet Talor’s mind went black. I'm this way came the Chief Medical Officers voice, don't go, your sensors are wrong, it's a trap the voice said. come to the lake in the center I'm in a cave near the north side, hurry the voice died off.

Chris suddenly stopped in his tracks as if hitting a brick wall, he had only met the CMO once and that was during his medical when he came onboard, but he could make out that it was the voice of the good Doctor

“Hang on , I can’t tell you how but i have the voice of the CMO in my head telling me not follow our scans as it’s a lie, we need to go to the lake at the centre”

He said a little confused, he knew what he had heard but as this was the first time hearing a telepathic message, he wasn’t 100% sure that it was indeed the Doctor he was hearing

Atob frowned that was very odd. They had been told to avoid the forest. Going to the lake would be going through the forest.
“Going to the lake would surely mean going through the forest. Are you sure she said the lake, Cadet?”

Chris understood the XO’s trepidation over the subject, they had indeed been told to stay out of the forest at all costs however the current path to the lake was directly through said forest, add to all that Chris wasn’t even sure the voice he heard was that of the good Doctor.

He had now got his equilibrium balanced enough to answer the XO

“That’s what the voice said to me......i’m sure of it Sir”

Morrell scanned the treeline, eyes narrowing. The forest seemed to breathe — each shift of mist between the trunks felt deliberate, almost watching. He’d seen too many ambushes begin in silence like this.

He looked over at Chris. “I believe you heard something, Chris,” he said evenly, voice low and rough. “The question is… who wanted you to?”

He shifted his grip on the rifle, keeping his aim low but ready. Years in combat zones had taught him to trust instinct — but verify everything. Telepathic messages, ghosts in the ether — it didn’t matter. Out here, anything that led a man off course could get him killed.

“Until we can confirm that signal,” Morrell continued, “we stay on mission. No deviations.” He paused, scanning the undergrowth. “But keep your mind open — if that voice talks again, I want every word it says.”

He nodded once toward the Commander. “Sir, permission to scout fifty meters ahead? I don’t like this ground. Something’s wrong here.”

TaYlor looked at his scanner which was now acting odd, the Dr’s signal was now flipping from where it was originally to the center of the forest. The gear seemed to be malfunctioning.

“Sir, the tricorder seems to be malfunctioning now , it shows the Doctor at the center of the forest?”

Chris was starting to get confused however they were warned about the forest being telepathic, was this real or just a ruse to trap them?
