A Starfleet uniform was more then a piece of material, it was a ticket. A ticket to explore, learn and help wherever he could in the galaxy. Jethro knew this was only a training ship but he couldn’t help but teem with excitement at the people he was going to meet. The wonders of the galaxy he was going to see and study. And of course he couldn’t help but anticipate the possible action they might encounter.
He looked up to the roof of the bay with a proud smile.
Almost there Mom. Now let’s see what this ship has in store for me.
Jethro’s focus returned to the present as he headed towards the shuttle bay doors and into the hallway of the deck.
He took a step off the main through-way and activated his com badge.
=^= Cadet Jethro Avant to Chief Medical Officer Lieutenant Rox. This is your new doctor, I have arrived on board the Challenger. I was wondering if you were free for a Department Head and Medical Check-in meeting? =^=
- Cadet E. Jethro Avant (Doctor)
=/\=Of course Cadet. Report to sickbay at your earliest availability. Rox out.=/\= Sitting in her office she grinned slightly. She remembered those days of being so formal, so precise, so crisp. It was refreshing and nostalgic. It made everyone seem just a little more connected in her heart. She pulled up the information on her newest cadet and reviewed it until he arrived.
Lt. Rox, Chief Medical Officer
Jethro smiled when he heard the Chief Medical Officer’s reply come over the comm way.
=/\= Understood Ma’am, I’ll find my bunk and make my way over sick bay with in the half-hour. Looking forward to the check-in, Cadet Avant out. =/\=
The excitement was hard to miss in Jethro’s voice as he signed-off. After fixing with the shoulder bag on his Starfleet issue duffle bag. Jethro headed off to the lower deck quarters to find his bunk and drop his stuff off. The soft rush of adrenaline pulsed in his blood and excited every nerve at the anticipation of meeting the USS Challenger. It had been a long winding road for him to reach this point. Now he was just a few months away from being an official Starfleet officer.
He found his bunk and just threw his belongs gently on the standard issue bed compartment. Only grabbing one thing from his duffle as he moved quickly…the experimental medical tricorder that he had been working. The cadet was eager to show Dr. Rox what he had been working on and get her thoughts.
Within 17 minutes of his communicae, Jethro walked into sick bay. He paused a bit in the entrance to take in the layout, sounds and smell of the starships’s main medical center. Its smelled and felt familiar. Like coming home. Jethro quickly located Lieutenant Rox’s office and made his way over. Pressing the chime on the doorway as curtousy. “Cadet Erik Jethro Avant reporting for duty, Ma’am.” He stood at attention with arms folded behind his back.

Rox looked up and smiled. “Ah Cadet Avant, or do you prefer a different form of address? Welcome.” She stood and walked around her desk and offered her hand. “Come into the main bay and we’ll get your medical eval out of the way. Then we’ll talk in my office.” She led Avant through the small hall to the main bay and gestured to the biobed that she reached down and turned on. “How was your trip out?”
OOC: We also have a main sim thread that you are needed in. Here is the link: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/acad/challenger/posts/268045/?page=1
Lt. Rox, Chief Medical Officer“Cadet Avant is a perfect address, Lieutenant,” Jethro said as he nodded towards the Chief Medical Officer while she directed him to a biobed in the main room, “Jethro works perfectly fine as well, I just don’t tend to go by Erik.” Avant shrugged as he hopped up on the biobed and stretched out on it putting his hands behind his head. He looked quite comfortable. There was an old earth saying that doctors often made the worst patients. That was usually said because doctors were frequently focused on taking care of others over their health.
Rox smiled warmly, “I will remember that.”
But, for Jethro that was hardly the case. He had spent much of his time around sick bays from an early age. The functions and jobs of the medical center were firmly ingrained in his brain. Cadet Avant knew that being a hard case only made things worse for doctors who were just doing their best to care for people. He made a decision a long time ago, that if he was going to be a doctor, he would have to take his own medicine a set an example for his patients. Jethro was also very well versed in being a patient with the many times he had found himself in…“interesting situations”… that led him to seek “minor’ medical attention. At least that is how he had always worded it. “And thank you, Lieutenant, I’m looking forward to serving on the USS Challenge.” His steady toned voice did little to hide the small side smile that betrayed his excitement.
“She’s a good ship, small, but a good little ship. Have you ever travelled on a smaller vessel?” she asked.
As he laid on the biobed while Lieutenant Rox inspected his vitals, Avant’s eyes scanned the sick bay around. He took in the layout of the room around. The medical cadet memorized the location of medical equipment that the Challanger’s sick bay had, recalling their function in his head. Jethro returned his attention to the Chief Medical Officer. “The trip out was relaxing gave me some time to read up on some medical journals and go over the USS Challenger’s specifications, especially your sick bay. I always look forward to any chance to get back into space.” He smiled at the doctor who was only 10 years older than him, a smile that was bright and full of life. “You have a wonderful setup here.”
OOC: Excited to join in! Posting in the main simm now.

“It’s a small medical facility, but one of the perks of being an Academy ship is we get all the upgrades and new doo-dads that come out.” Rox grinned, “It’s kind of like a birthday every time we hit a port. All kinds of new things to play with.”
Rox pulled out her tricorder and began taking scans. “Any his,” she paused and looked down at a full grown white and gold husky who had appeared at her side. He was wearing a blue vest that read “Service Dog, Do Not Pet.” He nudged her hip and not getting the response he wanted he pawed at her hand. Letting out a sigh, “Alright, alright. Go get it then.” The dog turned and trotted across the bay and returned with a rope in his mouth that was attacked to a rolling stool. Rox pulled it over and sat down. She patted the dog on the head. “Good boy.” She shook her head with a small smile. “Cadet Avant meet Ril. He’s my medical service dog.”
Lt. Rox, Chief Medical Officer
Jethro looked around the sick bay with wonder as she talked about all the new medical equipment they got to shake down. “I cannot wait to get to play with all these new toys,” he said as his attention was drawn to the husky that came over.
Rox chuckled slightly. She understood the feeling all too well.
“Well, Ril seems to take good care of his patient just like you or I would,” the Human-Denobluan cadet said with a soft chuckle as he looked down at the service dog. He gave the small husky a bright smile in a way only a half-Denobluan could.
Ril’s ears twitched hearing his name, but his attention was laser focused on Rox. He was a very friendly animal but was very dedicated to his work.
Jethro then brought his attention back to the Chief Medical Officer as she scanned him with her tricorder. “Is he for your myasthenia?” he asked the Lieutenant with a raised eyebrow. “I read up on all the medical history crew, the ship’s files are available to all medical personnel in Starfleet, even cadets. I made sure to do a full study on my way over.”
- Cadet E. Jethro Avant (Doctor)
“He is. Most days I do fine, but on the days I don’t, I am grateful for him,” Rox confirmed. “That’s good. A doctor should always be proactive about their patients’ health, and then walk that fine line between care and invading privacy.” She returned the scanner to the top of her tricorder. “Alright, let’s look at these results.”
OOC: what do his scans show?
