Bridge shift change was already underway, multiple sets of officers were busy informing their shift replacements of the days events, as well as any of those scheduled for later in the evening. The bridge was alive with movement and chatter. The ship now at dock was preparing for their mission into space with it’s next crew of cadets. The previous mission events still lingered on the minds of the crew who had been onboard it had been a difficult mission one not usually experienced by a ship carrying cadets. With any luck the next mission would be a quick cruise around the inner core of the federation. The coms console flashed with and incoming communication from Starfleet for Captain Steve Johnson from Admiral Alexander Martin.
OOC: Anyone on the bridge can take the call and contact the captain.First to post wins :) “And Here, We, Go!”
~Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
Demil had managed to leave a couple cadets running the lab long enough to slip in a bridge shift - one of the privileges of the job. Seeing as the comms had been left unattended during shift change, it took a moment before Demil got annoyed by the persistent beeping and routed it to the science station, checked the message header, then tapped his badge. =/\= “Bridge to Foley. Incoming message from Admiral Martin for you, sir. Would you like to take it here or should I route it elsewhere?” =/\=
Lieutenant Demil Lis
Chief Science Officer=^=I’ll be there shortly. Stall for me Lieutenant.=^=
Pilar had just stepped onto the bridge. She was intending to mann the tactical console until NE Summers arrived.
As Lieutent Lis answered the incoming transmission, she exchanged a brief glance with him, and silently signaled that she’d take over. She tapped the comms panel to bring up the incoming message.
” I’ll take the call.”
As the message was routed to her station, the image of Admiral Alexander Martin appearing on the screen, Pilar knew that whatever was coming next was important. She could feel the eyes of a few bridge officers subtly shift in her direction, their conversations quieting as the Admiral spoke.Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)Capt Foley - CO
The screen flickered to life, Martin stood center screen his white high and tight hair cut reflected the lighting from above his head giving it a slight yelow high light. A model of the Kansas class carrier hovered from behind his shoulders drifting slightly back and forth. “Ah Commander Halcone, so good to see you” he said as 4 minature fighters slip off the ship flew infront and took up it’s minature escourt.

Pilar straightened slightly as Admiral Martin’s image filled the screen. His familiar presence, framed by the hovering model of the Kansas-class carrier behind him. The miniature fighters floating in front of the carrier only enhanced the gravitas of the moment. She kept her expression neutral, though inwardly, her mind was already running through potential reasons for this communication.
“Admiral Martin,” she greeted, her voice steady. “Commander Halcyone, filling in for Captain Foley. What can I do for you, sir?”
She could sense the quiet behind her, the subtle tension that always accompanied a call from an admiral. It wasn’t every day that high-ranking officers contacted them mid-shift. Pilar kept her focus on the screen, ignoring the curious glances from the other bridge officers.
Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)Zunara looked on from the Security station, curious to see what his crew mates were in for.
-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-
Martin smiled warmly causing his worry lines, gained from years of command, to crinkle slightly as his eyes lifted. His eyes drinking in the bridge with some jealousy as he made eye contact with the crew he could see. The Kansas, his former command, collected it’s fighters, and with the winding sound of a ship preparing for warp, suddenly shot off out of screen shot. “Sorry Commander I have a special charge with me tonight” he said with a chuckle. “Ethen my boy watch out for the displays” he said looking off screen for a moment. “Sorry Uncle” came the voice of a young boy just off screen. “A good Captain has control of his ship” he said chuckling and looking back to the screen.
The lighthearted interaction reminded Pilar of the connections that often got overshadowed by the demands of command. It stirred a pang of longing within her, making her miss her own children. The thought of her kids highlighted the sacrifices she made in the name of duty.
Admiral Martin ready himself once more giving his tunic a quick tug. “I’m calling you with your next assignment, should be a straight forward run for the new crew members nothing, like your last mission” he noted “You all deserve a cruise this time”
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
Viveca discreetly listened in, schooling her features as she glanced at a report by her station. She often found humor when Admirals started off with selling a ‘simple mission’, but snorting at the words was hardly professional bridge behavior.
~Viveca Arlander~
Zunara chuckled to himself, quietly enough not to be heard, seeing Admiral Martin interact with the young boy reminded him of how his father used to prep him for his days at Starfleet Academy.
Vigilance is key Zu! The words echoed in the back of his mind.
-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-
Martin focused back on the screen. “Would you like to take the assignment on the bridge ? ” He asked
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
“I don’t see why not Admiral, unless there is a part that is compartmentalized. They are going to find out soon enough anyways,” Aaron said as he had walked from the turbolift towards the center of the bridge.
Capt Foley - CO
“Ah Captain, so good to see you again, as I was just telling your first officer, we have a fairly straight forward mission for you and your crew this time around.” he said with a knowing smile. “As you are I’m sure aware the annual science symposium is just wrapping up and will be concluding tomorrow evening with its annual ball”
The smile on his face widened as the model of the Kansas once again crossed in front of the screen, narrowly missing the admiral’s head.” Sorry Uncle” a voice decayed from left to right chasing the ship.“You and your crew have been invited to attend the ball for some well-earned rest and relaxation, and a little career boosting networking in the process. It is by no means mandatory for anyone but a thank you for a job well done. “
Looking down, the admiral pressed a button on the PaDD he was holding. A picture of a very beautiful Korean woman and what could only be her children who were likely half Vulcan, appeared on the screen. “You’ll be escorting, Lt Commander Lanna T’Sai and her family first to the Agosoria Nebula to deploy her six new probes, code named Thoth. Once the probes are active you will then complete the escort to star base twenty-one.” He said, taking a moment to pause.
“Lieutenant Mira T’Sai, her daughter is a security officer on twenty-one and her son Lieutenant Max T’Sai is a brilliant scientist put them to work while they are aboard.” Alexander dropped the picture and once again filled the screen. “The probes should be available for your Chief Engineer to inspect and bring aboard within the hour. Do you have any questions for me?”
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
OOC: Patching thread split.
“Seems pretty straight forward Admiral. Is there anything I need to be concerned about with the probes? Or should I wait for the Commander to get on board to brief us on them?”
“I’ll coordinate with Zunara to ensure security measures are in place during the probe activation. We will ensure everything is secure for Commander T’Sai and her family,” she said quietly.
Pilar turned her attention to the bridge crew, “Lieutenant Zunara, coordinate with Lieutenant Lis to ensure we have all the necessary support systems in place for the probe deployment. Report on any potential security concerns before we take off.”
“Lieutenant Tor will prepare his team to inspect the probes as soon as they arrive.”
Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)Demil nodded. “Understood, Ma’am. Is that all?”
Lieutenant Demil Lis
Chief Science OfficerCaptain Aaron Foley
CO“My office will be open when you’re ready Commander Halcyone.” Zunara said with a nod.
-Lieutenant Zunara: Chief of Security-
“Apologies, I’m running late”
The large figure burst out of the turbolift onto the bridge, a grin plastered across his face. He was very clearly exhausted and had very clearly been sprinting through the ship to make the bridge however it was clear that nothing was going to have an effect on the overly cheery nature of the USS Challenger’s newest Department Head. It was very clear the man could keep a smile through anything.
“Got caught up rerouting the… oh I’m sure you don’t care” he continued, pausing for a few moments. “Oh apologies. Captain” he offered Foley a smile. “Commander”, he followed up and offered the same smile to Halcyone. His eyes finally settled on the viewscreen, his face going pretty much as red as his hair. “Well, this is awkward” he muttered quietly, still with a smile on his face however more of embarassment than joy.
“Where am I needed?”
Lieutenant Winterbourne - Chief Engineer
Pilar nodded as Lieutenant Winterbourne joined the bridge, her gaze acknowledging the Chief Engineer’s slightly chaotic arrival without breaking her composed demeanor. She was used to the energy that came with new officers, and Winterbourne seemed to be a perfect embodiment of it. Still, there was work to be done, and her attention needed to stay on task.
“Lieutenant Winterbourne, I’m glad you made it. You can take on the task of preparing the inspection the probes once they arrive. We need to make sure everything is in working order before activation.”“Aye aye Commander”
He offered a smile towards the XO of the Challenger.
The Admiral waved his hand dismissing the comment. “Bah it’s good to see officers with a bit of speed in their step” he noted in response, “And no Captain nothing too out of ordinarry just some additional shielding for the excessive radiation. Tranmition might be a bit more powerfull too. ” He paused his left eyebrow poped up a bit as he smiled . “It’s all pops and buzes to me, Lanna can fill you in.” His face turned a little more authority. “Precious cargo sir, Lanna is the closest thing to a daughter that I have and I consider her children my grandchildren, keep them safe yes?.” He requested
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
“Of course Admiral. We’ll get those probes launched and the Commander and her family to Starbase 21 in time for the ball. In the meantime, we’ll make sure the Challenger is ready for their arrival so we can head out as soon as they are on board.
Capt Foley - CO
Viveca quietly started researching their guests coming on board, both for her own knowledge and in case the Captain wanted her present when they welcomed them onboard.
~Viveca Arlander~
She turned her attention to the viewscreen, her posture calm but alert. The Admiral’s words about the precious cargo weighed on her. She knew how important Commander T’Sai and her family were, and ensuring their safety during the probe deployment was not just a matter of duty, it was personal for many aboard, including the Admiral.
“Captain,” she said, “I’ll oversee preparations on the lower decks, especially in Engineering and Security. I want to make sure we don’t miss anything before Commander T’Sai and her family come aboard. I’ll report back in an hour.”
She straightened, giving a quick, sharp nod before turning toward the turbolift.Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)He cast his eyes around the bridge, still with the same smile plastered across his face. “I suppose I best put my work face on” he said quietly. “I’ll brief Engineering, moment those probes are on board we’ll give them a good going over, make sure there’s nothing to be concerned with” he confirmed finally, following the XO towards the turbolift.
Lieutenant Winterbourne - Chief Engineer
“Keep me updated Commander, Lieutenant,” Aaron said looking away from the screen for a moment before turning his attention back to the Admiral.
Capt Foley - CO
“Admiral, is there anything else that we need to be aware of before our guests arrive?”
Capt Foley - CO
Pilar entered the turbolift, her thoughts filled with the Admiral’s briefing. As the doors slid shut, She allowed herself a brief moment to exhale, loosening the tension in her shoulders. Pilar felt that Commander T’Sai and her family weren’t just passengers, they were the key to something bigger, something the Admiral hadn’t fully explained. Her instincts told her there was more to this mission, and that heightened her focus.
Commander Halcyone
(Executive Officer)Martian smiled warmly, “No Captain, If I don’t see you at the ball, then we’ll speak again soon” he said ducking as the model of the U.S.S Kansas would have smacked him square in the face if he had not ducked out of the way, “Safe travels” he said as the screen went dark.
Mr Centauri GM extraordinaire
Aaron let out a breath he hadn’t realized he had been holding when the Admiral ended the call. He had been doing this long enough that the other shoe was going to drop at some point. But not just yet.
For now though, he would hope that the mission would end up being as easy as it sounded.
=^=All hands, this is the Captain. We just got our next mission orders. We will be having a few guests joining us this time. More information will be coming down from the senior staff, but in the meantime, prepare the ship for departure. Foley out.=^=
